In honor of Davy
Years past, his hair grayed and his color began to fade. The pirate turned merman had lived a long and peaceful life with the ocean king.
They had traveled all over, explored hidden caverns and befriend wayward sailors. Davy even managed to save a few of his old shipmates. Atticus didn't know it was possible to love him anymore but he wasn't surprised when he did.
Atticus even loved him when Davy started to notice the years on his face. The rare stray grey hair or smile line didn't bother him at first, until it was rare to find a black hair. They stopped traveling far away, preferring to stay near what they called home. Davy worried that the love Atticus had for him would fade with his obvious age, but in those moments of doubt Atticus would remind him how much he truly loved him.
As time continued to fade his fins, Atticus knew the time was coming. He held onto Davy tighter, held his hand longer and never swam faster than him. Davy knew what was going on, he too felt it in his bones but he never would mention his fear.
The moment came on a full moon, when the reflection of the sleeping sun reminded them of their first night togehter. Davy went to sleep holding onto Atticus until his grip weakened and he was gone.
There were no tears from the flamed colored king. Instead he used what magic he had to create a likeliness of his love in a precious stone. The embodiment of Davy appeared to be sleeping and ageless in the dark blue stone.
The years continued to build but that area of the ocean never seemed to age, it was like it was frozen in time. It became a legend to the sailor that often traveled that part of the sea. On a certain full moon during the year the king of the ocean could be seen looking upward at the moon before diving below. Sailor said it was on those clear nights they could see a beautiful statue. They would never understand the love behind its creation but knew that it was a sacred to the King and never dared to uproot the priceless memorial.
