NIGHT TERRACE APPRECIATION POST
This series is my new favourite thing- an Australian sci-fi comedy drama, originally funded through Kickstarter but got broadcast on the BBC this year. The first episode is on YouTube and the rest are available to buy for a reasonable price on the official website as downloads. There’s currently a Kickstarter campaign to get a third series.
It takes major cues from Doctor Who and Hitchhiker’s Guide, following Anastasia Black (played by “Susan from Neighbours”, Jackie Woodburne) reluctantly time-travelling in her house, the Night Terrace and dutifully saving planets from invasion and solving murder mysteries and the like. She’s accompanied by Eddie Jones, a student majoring in dance and minoring in transdimensional physics who happened to be on the porch when the house started moving and approaches a situation comparable to that of Arthur Dent with the attitude of Arthur Shappey. In each episode of the first series, they encounter a woman who calls herself Sue and gives them irritatingly vague, cryptic advice.
It is definitely deserving of more attention, the writing is hilarious and creative, there is wonderful character development, and it occasionally gets political about topics like colonialism (is bad) and Nazism (is bad). My favourite episode so far is the fifth episode the first series which subverts the usual Nazi episode tradition of time travel series.
Also its mascot is a dancing bilby hand puppet and a companion podcast, On The Terrace.

Biochemistry may be considered as the description of life at the molecular level. The chemical and physical nature of structures and functions within living cells is studied. This course allows students to develop an understanding of the major classes of biochemical compounds found in living organisms and the metabolism of these compounds. It discusses the structures and chemistry of biomolecules, bioenergetics of metabolic reactions and central metabolic processes including metabolism of carbohydrates, respiration and photosynthesis. This is extended to consider the biochemistry of important enzyme-catalysed reactions during production and storage of wine. Impacts of enzymes from the grapes, the microbes used to ferment wine, and used as winemaking additives are discussed. The course also considers biochemical and spectroscopic analysis of wine.
