Ford is such a cute little freak.

Zaphod doesn’t like talking about his childhood. No one can ever know he was that adorable. Or that his hair isn’t naturally pointy like Ford’s is. It would ruin his reputation.

Did Douglas Adams know he was making all of the characters gay and autistic? Like… was this a choice and he just didn’t tell anyone about it?

Well alright. Obviously he didn’t know they were all autistic, because back then it wasn’t really understood and it’s honestly not hard to imagine that he himself could have been neurodivergent, considering he had to be locked in a room with no distractions in order to work.

But. But. But they’re gay too. And. And people did know about gay people. Like. He was aware. And. He never actually gave Ford a love interest. But then had him cry over a love song while sitting next to his best friend and no one else was around. Like. Yes I had to make my dad turn it off when it started playing in the car because I was about to either start crying or biting (sometimes certain sad or slow songs make me want to bite the shit out of the nearest items and I dont know why), but I’m not the galaxy’s most emotionally avoidant frood. When my friend died, I mourned hard. When Ford’s brother died, he refused to talk about it and just tried to pretend it didn’t happen. For years. It’s so uncharacteristic of him to cry over a love song. It’s even more uncharacteristic of him to cry over a love song in front of someone he knows super well (Arthur) and then PAY for the experience!

Not to mention that really adorable bit about them at the end of the Restaurant at the End of the Universe book where they’re exploring prehistoric Earth and Ford is having so much fun just being codependent with Arthur he forgets to keep checking for spaceships. And Arthur notices. And doesn’t ask him to keep checking.

Just. Was this purposeful? Why did? Why did this happen? How did no one catch it? Did none of the editors question it?

Genuinely so curious about this.

Has anyone talked about what a weird fucking choice it is for Ford to only hum the word ‘mad’ in Mad About the Boy and assume it would annoy anyone? It’s a two minute song and it’s only said 5 times. No wonder nobody noticed bro. You’re just occasionally making noises. Also that’s a really gay song to have stuck in your head when you’re exploring space with your best bud.

ALSO YOUR ART IS SO CUTE TOO! The Ford drawing you did got me back into Lemon Demon btw, thank you for that, I hadn’t listened to that song since middle school and I forgot how much I loved it. Also I made my mom listen to it and she’s declared that Touch-Tone Telephone is the song of this summer and has been listening to it on repeat because, “It’s like Oingo Boingo but new!” So she would like to say thank you as well.

Also I’m really glad you like my version of Ford. He doesn’t really look like most of the other designs I’ve seen of him and sometimes I get nervous about that. I came up with his design while reading the books before I even knew there was a fandom or a tv show. Thus. He is a very pointy gangly creature of lust and alcohol and poorly masked AuDHD.

My boyfriend suddenly felt left out after I posted those drawings of Ford in my clothes, so here is Arthur wearing my boyfriend’s clothes.

It’s only the one drawing because all of my boyfriend’s clothes look exactly like this. Sometimes it’s blue instead of pink. Sometimes it’s fruit instead of trees. Sometimes the shorts are black or the socks are white. It’s still the same outfit.

I drew Ford wearing my favorite clothes because my boyfriend told me I dress like him. And also my mom made me a towel jacket. It’s comfy as hell. He would love it.
