Some places are located in time as well as space, you can't get back to them no matter where you take yourself.
The Lost Carving by David Esterly
Fate and chance, two words for the same thing: the sudden swerve of events that sends life spinning onto a new trajectory. Every life is shaped by unforeseen incidents and chance encounters. But the extravagant and unstable live of artists seem especially in thrall to fortune. Restless post-medieval artists, anyway. Searching after a style, beset by competitors living and dead, dependent on capricious patronage, their lives are a galliard of luck and will. A simple twist of fate could change everything.
My current reading: The Lost Carving by David Esterly. Thanks to my mother's cousin for sending this book to my parents and loving it so much that I picked it up even though woodcarving isn't a passion of mine. Amazing writer.
