The seventh Tarot card “The Chariot” is the key to 2014. The secret name of this card is the “Triumph of the Lord of Light”. Spiritually this represents an advanced practitioner breaking through to full realization – attaining Enlightenment. But, even for those of us who are not at that level yet, it still promises higher attainments. This is further strengthened by the occurrence of a New Moon in 1st January (in most parts of the world). But one cannot have it both ways. Therefore 2014 is an unfortunate year for those enterprises that are self-centered and based on greed. For to judge another person merely by their money, or by their work capacity – corrupts our humanity. And many companies and governments follow that philosophy. Spirit is not a sugary nice-ness. It is the Power that drives creation, and which always breaks down whatever obstructs evolution. History demonstrates this time and time again. The greedy, who do not share, always end up on the cosmic scrap heap – until they learn better. But to those who are sincere co-workers with Spirit, 2014 promises them the help and protection of Providence. What the Ancient Wisdom called: ‘Being touched by the Gods’.

Ritual gives a group the means to experience something that they would otherwise find inexpressible. ... Funerals are a very good example of the power of symbolism and ritual. Grief is amorphous, because you are dealing with loss someone who is no longer there (from the physical point-of-view). You cannot point at something and say: “That is what is hurting me.” You are left with this void. It is very hard to express grief -which is why some people get very confused and clumsy at such times. The purpose of a funeral’s symbolic ceremony – which affects the subconscious - is to create a channel through which the bereaved can express their particular loss.

Why are sacred ceremonies used in spiritual work? Why do all ‘those with knowledge’ – from ancient Egypt to Tibetan lamas in modern times use the Way of Ritual? Are ceremonies just ‘traditional’, or do they really effective? Simply put, there are two major reasons why the ‘science of ritual’ is used. Firstly, ceremony is a kind of ‘shorthand’ for the spiritual principles of the Ageless Wisdom. Let me give you an example: * The Earth uses a circle of the seasons – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter * Plants seed, flourish, bloom, then wither – and start all over again * The soul passes through Birth, then Death – then Birth again * History repeats itself * Psychologically, (unless we wake up spiritually) we are slaves to repetitive cycles of our own life * Electrons orbit around the atomic center * Planets orbit their stars * Galaxies turn on their axis * You are surrounded by Life * Everything comes into being, exists for a time, then passes out of manifestation – and then returns, often in a new form * Time and Space are surrounded by the Infinite All of the above – and much more – is represented by the simple symbol of the Circle. And each time a ritual gesture of a circle is made all of these associations are awoken in the mind. This is why sacred ceremony takes place in the ‘magic circle’. The second reason why ritual is used is that: most people are not good at visualizing. Like any skill, visualization needs practice, concentration and effort. But, with ritual, we reinforce our visualizations – we charge them up. An unaided visualization is like drawing a pencil sketch of what you want. But visualization done of the symbol in a charged atmosphere of a ritual, is like creating a 3-D hologram of what you wish to manifest.

The Devil card is all about appearances. This is why it shows an inverted Pentagram on its forehead, a symbol of Black Magic, because the two points at the top represent duality (me and other). Whereas, the Star of Light has a single point upwards to show that comes from, and is ruled by Spirit of consciousness. if you see symbols of Black Magic you will see that they have no originality. All Black Magic it is parasitic and criminal. And demonic sigils have no symmetry or beauty - they are twisted and torn - in the same way as the figure of The Devil with a goat’s head, woman’s breasts and arms, a pair of bat wings, eagle’s legs. The symbol of Mercury coming out of The Devil’s procreative region is to indicate the enslavement of the intellect to duality and appearances. This why the alchemists called the intellectual approach the “false tincture” – because it is the wrong tool with which to perceive spiritual reality. Oral tradition says that behind the ‘mask’ of the Devil is the Archangel Uriel, whose name means ‘the light of God’. He is assigned to the rulership of matter. The arcanum of Uriel is that within matter is the sparkling, radiant energy from which the entire universe is made.
