Death By ICE
Deaths by ICE/Border Patrol Agent Use of Force
2026
Nurul Amin Shah Alam – February 24, Buffalo, New York. 56‑year‑old Rohingya refugee, nearly blind, taken from county jail by Border Patrol on an immigration hold. Agents decided not to deport him, then dumped him at a doughnut shop after dark in subfreezing weather, miles from home, with no escort, no translator, and no way to navigate. Reported missing by his family; found five days later on Perry Street near the arena, dead on the ice. Official cause listed as “medical,” but he would not have died there if ICE/Border Patrol had not abandoned a disabled man to wander Buffalo winter alone.
Alex Pretti - January 24, Minneapolis, Minnesota. 37-year-old ICU nurse at VA hospital, U.S. citizen. Shot 9 times by Border Patrol agent after being wrestled to ground and disarmed. Video shows agents had already taken his firearm before shooting. Holding phone, not weapon, when agents approached. No criminal record beyond parking tickets.
Renee Nicole Good - January 7, Minneapolis, Minnesota. 37-year-old mother of three shot in head by ICE agent Jonathan David Ross during anti-ICE protest. Video analysis shows Ross was outside vehicle path when he fired 3 shots. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem falsely labeled her a "domestic terrorist" hours after killing despite no evidence.
2025
Keith Porter Jr. - December 31, Northridge, California. 43-year-old Black father of two shot by off-duty ICE agent Brian Palacios. Porter was firing celebratory shots into air on New Year's Eve. Agent went home, put on full tactical gear, returned and shot Porter dead. Family disputes self-defense claim.
Unnamed man - December 11, Rio Grande City, Texas. 31-year-old Mexican national shot 3 times by Border Patrol agent during struggle near riverbank on Midway Road. Agent fought with him for 2 minutes before discharging firearm.
Jose (Josué) Castro-Rivera - October 23, Norfolk, Virginia. 24-year-old from Honduras struck and killed by vehicle on I-264 while fleeing ICE agents during traffic stop. Was headed to gardening job. Had lived in U.S. for 4 years, sent money home to family. DHS blamed his death on "misinformation" and "resistance."
Silverio Villegas González - September 12, Franklin Park, Illinois. Shot by ICE agent during traffic stop.
Ryan Louis Mosqueda - July 7, McAllen, Texas. 27-year-old from Michigan killed by Border Patrol after firing at CBP facility in Weslaco. Two officers and one Border Patrol employee injured before Mosqueda was shot and killed.
David Maland - January 20, Coventry, Vermont. 44-year-old Border Patrol agent killed in shootout during traffic stop.
Ophelia Bauckholt (Felix Bauckholt) - January 20, Coventry, Vermont. German national killed by Border Patrol during shootout after drawing firearm. Passenger in vehicle stopped for immigration inspection.
Deaths in ICE Custody Due to Medical Neglect, Abuse, or Inadequate Care
2026 (January)
Parady La - January 9. 46-year-old Cambodian man. Died at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital after being held at Federal Detention Center Philadelphia. Arrested January 6 near Upper Darby home. Repeatedly told officers he was experiencing fentanyl withdrawal. Family says he vomited multiple times and requested medical care. ICE inappropriately administered NARCAN (for overdoses, not withdrawal). Found unresponsive in cell January 7. Died of anoxic brain injury, cardiac arrest, shock, and multiple organ failure. Family questions why NARCAN was used for withdrawal symptoms.
Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz - January 6. 68 years old from Honduras. Died at JFK Memorial Hospital, Indio, California after detention at Imperial Regional Detention Facility. Heart-related complications.
Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres - January 5. 42 years old from Honduras. Died at hospital in Conroe, Texas after detention at Joe Corley Processing Center. Congenital heart failure.
Geraldo Lunas Campos - January 3. 55-year-old Cuban father of four. Died at Camp East Montana (Fort Bliss), El Paso, Texas. *EL PASO COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINER RULED HOMICIDE. Cause of death: "asphyxia due to neck and torso compression" while being physically restrained by law enforcement. Autopsy showed scattered superficial abrasions all over body, petechial hemorrhages in eyelids and neck, fractured ribs. Witness told Associated Press that at least five guards pinned him down with handcuffs, one applying pressure around neck until he lost consciousness. Another witness reported guards choked him and he repeatedly said "No puedo respirar" ("I can't breathe"). ICE initially claimed suicide attempt; medical examiner ruled homicide.
Victor Manuel Diaz - January 14. 36-year-old from Nicaragua. Found unresponsive in room at Camp East Montana (Fort Bliss). ICE claims "presumed suicide" but family strongly disputes this. Unlike previous Fort Bliss deaths, body was sent to Army medical center at Fort Bliss instead of county medical examiner, raising transparency concerns. Arrested in Minneapolis January 6, transferred to Fort Bliss. Family says "I don't believe he took his life."
