The University of Arkansas at Little Rock recently announced it would install a charging station for electric vehicles.
According to a news release, the station was the suggestion of Hugh McDonald, president and CEO of Entergy Arkansas. Verdek of Madison, Conn., will provide and install the Coulomb ChargePoint station.
David Millay, associate vice chancellor for facilities management, told ArkansasBusiness.com that it wasn't known how much need the UALR campus has currently for charging stations. The additions are being made in anticipation of future needs, he said.
"We expect 1 million electric cars on the road in the U.S. by 2015," Guy Mannino of Verdek said in the release. "A strong EV charging infrastructure will be critical to facilitate a widespread use of EVs by reducing drivers' range anxiety and thus contributing to the reduction of oil dependence."
The station will be located at Lot 2, just north of the UALR tennis courts. Mannino said the cost for charging an EV ranges from $1 to $2.50.
