Outtake from my weekend shoot for the new Gibson Believers book.

This old thing? No no...as beautiful as this guitar is, it is *not* what I was there to shoot for the book. This is a what we call a "stand in" guitar. 😂

You see, setting up a shot takes time and a LOT of mucking about. Moving stuff around, changing lighting positions, tweaking angles to minimize reflections etc. It takes a lot of fiddling and people (and guitars...) moving about...all very dangerous when the guitar is worth as much as a house!

So @michaelsegui, my trusty assistant and I, use a "stand in" guitar until we're certain we have things set up correctly, and before bringing in the big guns for the "real" photos. This beauty was perfect for the job.

Oh..and check out the mintiest 1961 Fender Deluxe I have ever seen! 👌🥰

1959 Gibson ES-335 TDN, from my buddy's collection.

This was an outtake from our photo session for Vic DaPra and David Plues' "ES Believers" book. I just got my copy and it's pretty packed with incredible stuff! Sadly this specific guitar didn't make it into print, but I was tickled to see that the authors did use our photos for several double-page spreads showing other guitars from this collection, including a couple of natural 175s, a natural ES330, a natural ES350, and a couple of cherry ES335s!

The long-guard ES-335 is quite a rare guitar, especially in "natural" finish, so I was surprised this one didn't make it into the book. But just thumbing through it now, I think I can see why they didn't need to use it: they apparently were spoiled for choice on natural 3xx thinlines! There is a veritable plethora of them in the book - at least a dozen (including a super rare, very early, 1958 model!), which is pretty insane considering how few of them there are out there.

So, I can sort of see why the authors didn't need to use this guitar, especially after they used so many of our other shots (for which, I thank them sincerely!) 🙂

I'm happy and excited to announce I have my first "gig" in months coming up this weekend!

Yes, after what seems like a lifetime of being cooped up by the harshest Canadian winter in a decade, I'm finally heading off this weekend to shoot something EXTREMELY special* for Vic DaPra & David Plues' new Gibson Believers book, out later this year!

Speaking of special: here's a first-year PAF-equipped 1957 Gibson ES175 DN shot for their "ES Believers" book.

*hint: the guitar I'll be shooting is just BURSTing with minty goodness! 😉

Here's an outtake from my photo session for Vic DaPra and David Plues' upcoming book "ES Believers". Look for this guitar and several others from the same collection when the book comes out later this year (or early next year...David assures me if it's not out by Christmas it will definitely be out in time for NAMM!).
