That day, he stayed in his bedroom wanting to give her some privacy with her family. He also had some work to catch up with. He heard her erupt into laughter and giggles from the other room. He even remembers feeling a pang of jealousness that someone else could make her laugh just as hard as he does and in a language that he doesn’t understand. That all came to an end when the giggles turned into sobs.
“Yeah? Let’s put on some shoes then and we’ll go for a ride” He kisses her forehead before running both hands down the sides of her body trying to urge her to get up. She groans but still gets herself off him.
David waits for her at the entrance of the house. He pulls on the shirt under the sweater, that he has just yanked on as he stares at himself back through the mirror.
“Ready?” She stands on her tiptoes and plants a soft kiss on his nape before wrapping his arms around his torso. She knows she is being extra clingy with him, but she lacks comfort from people close to her.
“Yeah” Y/N mumbles, David takes his keys, phone, and wallet from the bench and shoves them into his pocket before interviewing his fingers with hers.
“Can we bring down the windows?” She asks after noticing the various colors that the sky has taken for the sunset. David doesn’t respond rather he just rolls down both windows.
“We should have taken the Ferrari” He chuckles as he watches her stretch her hand out of the window through the side mirror. He is tempted to put the car in autopilot just so he can stare at her. He sees her smile at his comment for a second before her permanent frown returns.

“What flavor would you like baby?” His arms are protectively wrapped around her waist from behind. He has just ordered a vanilla cone while she has asked for a taste of two different flavors. Her hands cover his as she looks through the different tubs of ice cream, still very indecisive.
“I’ll just get cookies and cream, please”
“Good choice. Now we can share” He pecks her cheek as they both watch the man behind the counter scoot up their ice creams.
“We are sharing?” She whispers back at him. David chuckles and nuzzles his face in her neck, his slight stubble ticking her at contact. Her small hands gently push his face away as she giggles. The man behind the counter has to cough to catch their attention. Y/N takes both cones while David pays. She also takes the opportunity to steal a lick from David’s.
“Hey! I saw that!” David calls her out as he receives the change from his twenty. “Thank you — Have a good day” He smiles at the grumpy man before leaving the parlor after Y/N.
“Should we go home now?” She asks as they carefully climb back into the car, making sure not to spill or drop the ice cream.
“I thought we could go for a drive while we enjoy the ice creams and sunset” Y/N nods at her boyfriend as he begins the drive. Soft music plays on the radio as David drives down route one, right by the ocean with a beautiful view.
“We should have taken the Ferrari” It’s now her turn to say as she notices how pretty of a day it is.
“I told you” He smiles as Y/N feeds him some of her ice cream. The sunset finally comes to an end, giving David not much of a choice, but to drive back home. It is also pretty dark and cold for them to be out on the streets.

“Thank you for today” She smiles as they exit the vehicle. David smiles as she wraps her arms around her torso and gives him a kiss with cookies and cream aftertaste. “It was a beautiful day”. It is always the little things that move her. He has grown used to it. He rarely bought her expensive gifts. He has come to realize that she loves sentimental things more than when he splurged on her.
“Anything for you, babe” David smiles as he opens the door of the house with her trailing closely behind. The lights of the house are all shut off. David closing the front door only makes the darkness more pronounced. “Can you turn on the lights, babe?” He asks from the entrance.
Y/N easily, but still very cautiously makes her towards the living room. She knows the room too well to ever trip or run over something. Plenty of drunken and slopping making out late nights with David has taught her to know the way through the house in complete darkness.
“I got it” She says before turning the switch on, illuminating the living room and revealing her parents. “Mãe? Pai?” Her voice breaks as her eyes fill with tears to the brim.
“Querida” Her mother's Portugues causes her to start sobbing. Her parents walk up to her, their arms instantly wrapping around their daughter. David stands back and shuts off the camera wanting to properly absorb the moving moment. He quickly wipes the tears that continue to stream down his face as he hears his girlfriend uncontrollably sobbing in the arms of her parents. He suddenly feels the urge to call his parents and tell them how much he loves them.
Y/N pulls back, wanting to get a good look at her parents.
“You look so beautiful!” She cries as she stares at her mother. “You look so handsome, pai” Y/N kisses her father’s cheek as she continues to hold her parents. “How? Why?” A million questions run through her mind. She still can’t believe that she finally is able to hug her parents.
“David. It was all him” Her mother says as the family turns to look at teary eye David. “Vehna filho”
“She said to come over son” David smiles as he walks up and lets the family embrace him. They all hold one another for a few more minutes until they move to the couch. They talk for hours until her parent’s excuse themselves; they exhaustion from the long flight winning them over. David had prepared the guest room for them. He wanted them to be as close as possible in case they needed one another.
“David Dobrik you fail to amaze me. Tell me, who gave you such a kind and selfless heart, huh?” She asks as she wraps her arms around his neck.
“No one should ever away from their family for so long” David gives her a small smile. He could easily feel her pain when they weren’t around. No sum of money could ever be too much to bring a family together.
