My contribution is a modern retelling of #vasilisaprekrasnaya , moving the story from magical Russian forests to a polluted suburb of Moscow, to deliberately subvert #IvanBilibin’s #illustrations of the tale. This retelling calls into question the politicisation of Bilibin’s work as a tool to glamorise traditional Russian rural life at a time when it is being eroded away but massive urbanisation.
