Dick and David meeting for the first time since David gave up the cowl.
(I realized why I find this pairing hard to write now. While I read David’s Batwing run until he left I haven’t really read Nightwing since the court of the owls. I briefly read it but I feel so unmoved “Oh his girlfriend’s dead. Ah, the circus burned down and everyone hates him. Oh look at that he’s gotten the snot beat out of him and he’s laying on the floor in a heap, guess I’m caught up then.” Dick’s appearance in Batwing was great it showed character building for David and Dick getting to be himself rather than taking a nap in a pool of blood. Sorry for the rant! Anyways…)

The city lights are a blur through lenses of Dick’s domino. “You could’ve chose to keep fighting, Batman would’ve.”
“I am not Batman. I saw my future and decided to change it.”
“So why’d you come here? I wouldn’t think Gotham is the top vacation spot for ex-vigilantes.”
“You.” David says, he’s not turned towards him but Dick feels his gaze on him.
“Me?” A lump forms in his throat.
He thinks of running out of a building awaiting David’s catch, not doubting the other man for a second. It was a year ago. A blink of an eye or what felt like a lifetime away in Dick’s case. David had asked him to extend his stay but he had declined saying he was needed elsewhere. He tries not to wonder what would have happened if he stayed. There’s no time to dwell on things so far back when he’s dodging bullets every night.
“I thought it would be obvious.”
“...I’m not like how I was.” He says, his shoulders tense. “Things are different.”
“I could say the same for myself.”
Dick shifts his weight between his feet, thinks about jumping and wants to laugh at how foolish that would be. “This could end horribly, you know that don’t you?”
“I have faced many horrible things. If you wish for me to be scared you will have to do better than that.”
“I forget…” he turns to look at David, “or I try to. What it was like to be around you. To feel needed.”
“Then I will help you remember.”
