10 June 2010. That’s the day he asked me to be his girlfriend 10 years ago! I can’t believe I missed this date if not for reminders from FB memories. Kinda feels like it’s so trivial to remember such dates because there are just so many important dates in a year right? Birthdays, engagement date, wedding date, who bothers to remember their dating anniversary anymore? But I have seen over the years that love is a daily choice and celebrating every year of God’s grace and mercy on our relationship is not one bit trivial. . We didn’t do anything special on this date, we simply exchanged a high five that it’s been 10 years of “going steady”. And also, we prayed. You’d think that after 10 years, praying together comes naturally but actually no, we’ve been working on that. There are many other areas of our relationship that we need to keep working on but one of the top right now is praying together everyday, even if it’s just a few moments. I have so much to say about prayer that wouldn’t fit into this post for today but just putting this into a square to remember where we’ve been and where we’re going. . 27 December #DavidxMelody Part 2 Spent the day unhurried and with exclusive time for the afternoon. Just what we needed. . Only five years in and, man, does marriage take effort. Some days are a breeze, and some days feel much harder than others. It’s an active decision to choose each other over and over; over the urge to walk away when we’re upset or over the urge to sting with words we might regret later. We have to actively choose to fight against tiredness and impatience that gets in the way so easily. We have to choose to remember our covenant and the privilege we have in marriage to reflect Christ and the church. The best part is having to choose each other every day. . It is my honour and joy to be your co-pilot and head cheerleader, my love. I look forward to spending the decades ahead growing old together. 27 December #DavidxMelody Part 1 . Has it only been five years of being married? So much has happened that it feels longer, yet so much seems to be ahead that these five years feel so short. We’ve spent the last decade growing up, as we dated and hit so many firsts together. Yes, of course I have noted how much we have grown sideways as well😪🤭😳but more than that, I know our love has also grown much deeper since the day these pics were taken. . The countdown is on til my mama and aunts get here! But first, can’t wait for dada to get back from his short work trip. We always miss him terribly. . We’ve had lotsa visitors in and out the last few weeks and they have brought extra life and joy to our place. I’m glad we have a home away from home that we can share with family and friends. Indeed, even before we know what we need, God already knows it. He is our provider, our ultimate source of everything we could possibly need. . “The LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want. I could barely find a photo to post. I looked at photos and just saw my own failures and flaws, I felt unwillingly to post something I didn’t feel looked great. But I guess that is the reality of love, isn’t it? It doesn’t always look great, it mostly isn’t romantic, and it definitely isn’t (just) what it’s made up to be on a day like today. They say marriage is choosing to fall in love with the same person every day. Flaws and weaknesses, oh we’ve got plenty, but we get to grow with each other daily through all that. Thank you for being my better half. . Today, we cross our 10th Valentine’s Day but spending it miles apart. Woke up this morning to a song he wrote for me and recorded in the midst of his busy work schedule. Obviously, I cried buckets and Beth looked at me really puzzled. Today marks completion of three years living away from Singapore. We left as just the two of us, and we don’t know yet when we will return. It has been a wonderful ride and we are so thankful for the chance to experience living abroad, immersing ourselves in unique culture. . Contrary to popular mindset these days, I did not crave to live abroad. I knew it was a possibility because of the husband’s work but I was perfectly fine staying in our small, sunny island. I’m glad the Lord had other plans than I did. It’s a really funny feeling having two places as ‘home’ at the same time, but of course what ultimately makes the place home is being under the same roof as my beloveds. We do miss our extended family and friends, and I look forward to returning to Singapore someday. . God is faithful and each country we have been in has been extremely suitable for our stage of life. He has provided above and beyond what we can imagine, meeting our needs even before we know them! How apt that November brings Thanksgiving just end of this month. The husband wanted some holiday feels today, and of course there is such beauty exploring a coastal area. We enjoyed some quiet moments as Beth napped and before the rain came down. Took the weekend to move and settle into our new apartment. Moving just down the corridor made the move a little better than expected. There was still a huge mess, and we’re still getting used to the new place but it is everything we could ask for, so we are immensely grateful. Still amazed at God’s favour regarding the location and approval of the budget, but truly nothing is impossible with Christ. Side note, this would be the 5th place David and I are calling “home” since we got married. Wow, right? #davidxmelody (at Discovery Point)
