Famine Memorial Dublin. by Davy Wright Via Flickr: The Famine Statues can be found along the Custom House Quay. Unveiled in 1997, this memorial commemorates the victims of the Great Famine of the mid-19th century in which 1 million died and 1 million more emigrated. This blow to Irish population had a profound effect on Irish society and is blamed on the failure of the potato crop, the stable died of many poor Irish during the 1840's
The statues were designed and crafted by Rowan Gillespie, renowned Dublin sculptor.
