Okay.

I got Dusk to calm down after last night. Currently, I'm being clung to like a Komala's log.

We talked. About that nightmare. Same one she's always had.

I... guess I should provide context to it. She said I could. It'll be under the cut, because the context doesn't make it any better. Trigger Warning ahead for childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect, everyone.

Our parents never wanted twins. They only wanted one kid. Since I'm the older twin, I was the golden child. They loved me.

But they never wanted Dusk. And they made it clear. They didn't have any family members they could ship her off to, so they had to raise both of us. Even then...

I can't count how many times I had to beg them to let her out of that closet. How many times I had to pretend to be the perfect daughter, while Dusk suffered in my shadow. How many times I had to pretend I was extra hungry, so I could sneak Dusk food. How many times I had to help her bandage injuries and hide them, to not raise suspicion. Anything that went wrong, it was blamed on Dusk, even if it was my fault.

That nightmare she had, it was from when we were nine. She had accidentally broken something, and they locked her in that damn closet. I didn't even know, because I was at violin lessons for the weekend, and only found out when I got home. We had been planning our escape ever since that night. I-

I had to do it. I heard them talking about finding a way to make her "disappear" under "mysterious circumstances", and how "nobody would look for her, anyways".

So on our tenth birthday, we ran. And we ran as far as we could go, and then some more. We knew the risks. But dammit, it was worth every one. We got out. We lived.

Mother and Father didn't expect Dusk to make it past ten. But I will make sure she keeps going, just to spite them. I hold no love for my former parents. My family is the one I've made. Dusk, Cyan, Twilight, Papa Ingo, Uncle Emmet, Uncle Sky, Ray, Rora, Ant, Gabe... the Paldea trio, the Kitakami Siblings, the Cirosa crew... all of them.

I won't let harm come to them. Especially not Dusk. She's been through enough.

Uncle Sky? You remember when I said that there was a lot of hurt in mine and Dusk's past that wasn't entirely mine to share? You know why, now.
