Getaway at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club
Growing up in Dallas, come the beginning of the school year, I would hear post-summer stories from my best friend Suzanne Karotkin Kilpatrick of her endless summer days at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in California. From dinners on the beach to tennis lessons to tanning tips & Tevas to cute older boys she would moon over, I knew that I wanted to go to this magical California haven with her one day. I did just that for the first time 8 years ago when I came on a whim and slept on Suz’s cousin’s couch. I was depressed because I knew a long-term relationship was ending, and honestly was in no place to take in - well - the PLACE. I came back last summer for what was supposed to be just one night to catch up with Suz, who was expecting her first baby the following spring, and ended up staying 3 days and 2 nights, having a ball with not just Suz but her whole family and their extended family of @LJBTC friends. As soon as the summer ended, we began making the plan to make it an annual tradition. So, a few weeks ago - even as I was in the thick of Beverly Hills #BOLDbh and prepping for @LAfoodwine - with a schedule of events and appearances that would make most folks dizzy just looking at - I kept the promise of our plan and Nick and I headed down to @LJBTC for 3 glorious days and 2 epic summer nights. We soaked up as much sun and sand as we could in this short time - enjoying the unique wonders that make this magical place what it is: Family dinners on the beach. Morning tennis lessons. Mud pie, mai tais and milkshakes in the casual beachfront restaurant. And, long talks with my best friend of almost 30 years sharing with each other our current realities as women that mirror some of the dreams we had as girls. See, no matter how busy and bustling life might get, we must always make time for those people who fill our hearts and for those simple yet decadent pleasures that make this at-times crazy life worth living. @LJBTC is full of those, and I’m so thrilled to share a few of them with you over the next few days. #DawnsDestinations #Dawncations — with Suzanne Karotkin Kilpatrick at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
