Us when we heard that James Van Der Beek won't be making it to Big Slick this year after all.
Let’s take it slow
As those of you who are close readers may have noticed, we’ve been a bit behind schedule with the bracket. We were planning to do two match-ups a week, but it turns out that watching—and writing about—20 episodes of teen drama in seven days is a bit ambitious if you have a full-time job. We also realized that we were having a great time digging deep on fun facts, live-tweeting episodes and, OK, occasionally watching more than the required five episodes (even One Tree Hill got that treatment, lest you think we’re totally heartless)—and we felt like we'd be rushing it if we did it any faster.
So from now on, we’re going to commit to just one match-up a week, giving us (and you) ample time to absorb all five episodes of each show, debate their merits and decide on who should advance to the next round. Think of it as the Teen Drama Dropout version of resisting that temptation to binge-watch all of The Vampire Diaries on your winter vacation (ahem)—if we pace ourselves, we’ll have that more more to enjoy. And we promise to keep you entertained in between votes, so don't be sad.
This means that you have this whole weekend to watch Glee and Freaks and Geeks, and we’ll announce the first match-up of the Sweet 16 next week. In the meantime, look out for further thoughts on Roswell’s dominance of One Tree Hill, some trivia for our second Freshman Tryout, and in a last-minute twist, a possible change to Glee’s “Best Episode” entry.
