It had only taken a glance through the front window hours before closing to know her beloved had had an especially rough day. Was it the fact that she had spent so long learning all she could about Daxa that she could tell? Was it the holiday rush and the subtle change of her smile? Perhaps both. Regardless, Violet had quietly paid a village boy to deliver a bouquet of flowers from her and snuck upstairs to begin. There was a date for that night and while she’d made a mental schedule of it, Violet threw it away without hesitation.

She took her time preparing the meal, making sure her love’s favorite was perfect, chilling a bottle of favored wine, and cleaning the apartment as well, uncaring if she was heard from the shop below. Dai, as was his habit, perched on her shoulder despite being a fifteen pound cat, and happily nibbled on the bits of food she offered. Keen ears caught the sound of the shop closing and Violet glanced to her watch.

By the time she heard footsteps approach the door, Violet had run a bath and candles had been lit just long enough that their gentle, soothing scent lightly drifted through the apartment, the bottle of wine aerating. Comfortable in the suit, though she had hung the jacket over a chair and stood just in the shirt, buttoned vest, dark slacks and heels, Violet gestured for Dai to go forward as the door opened.
