please teach me your knowledge about flowers i admire victorian flower language so much holy heck
Isn’t it just the coolest! I’m going through training for work right now so I’m a little slow to answer but I do answer! You can check out my floriography and flower language tags for my favourite reference materials. Most of the books I’ve listed are free online since they’re in the public domain. There are a couple different styles of arranging used in floriography that have their own grammar. The introductions of these books do a pretty good job of setting things out in a clear way. The easiest grammar is the nosegay or posey - the traditional bouquet carried by the bridal party at Western weddings. It communicated from the center out based on nouns and modifiers. In floriography, verbs are achieved largely through modified nouns. There’s not a to be verb per se, but there are short phrases such as ‘you are mine’ or ‘i am sorry’. This modified-noun form of communicating can make floriography wonderfully easy or a bit of a pain depending on the message. It can be communicated, it will just take some creativity in arrangement. Next, I would encourage you to bookmark some favourite flower language dictionaries. There’s too much flora to memorize everything, and you might have the flower for rage memorized, when really what you want to say is ‘I vow vengeance’. And for messages, don’t disregard cultural symbolism. In Texas the yellow rose means friendship for example. If I was making an arrangement for someone from Texas I would keep that in mind. Finally! If you have any specific questions feel free to ask! I won’t always take this long to answer. :D
