DAY 16 - GAME WITH THE BEST CUTSCENES
Can I admit something? To tell you all the truth, I actually don’t have much of an interest in most modern games. Even to this day, I still track down a lot of older titles, mostly because I just seem to get more enjoyment out of them... and the fact they’re usually cheaper certainly helps, too.
And you know, a lot of these older games really don’t have the best cutscenes... especially when it comes to the animation. But hey, at least they tried, right?
.........right?
Thankfully, my answer for today’s challenge is certainly much, much better than what you see above. And at last, I finally get to talk about another big favorite game of mine... one that has nothing to do with Spyro the Dragon, even!
Let me be perfectly blunt; I love, love, LOVE Daxter on the PSP. Don’t worry, I won’t go into a whole big spiel regarding everything I love about it... though I very easily could (it’s on my top ten favorite games list... which I’ll show off in another entry, btw). Instead, I’ll talk about one of the things that makes me enjoy it so much... that, of course, being its cutscenes.
In truth, I think the reason I love them so much is because of the main Ottsel, himself (who also just so happens to be on my list of favorite characters, too). But really, I always find myself enjoying his usual antics and dialogue, especially during scenes when we get to watch him try to act all cool, only for it to often backfire, or when he attempts to flirt with the ladies... which pretty much always backfires (with them usually either out-right ignoring or giving him an “Ha ha are you serious...?” look). But hey, at least there are times he manages to be a competent hero, as evident by other humorous scenes like when he somehow successfully manages to sneak/talk his way into the Baron’s palace... by accidentally mumbling the exact name of the guard’s captain, thereby granting him access (at least he had a perfect disguise for this situation... one that didn’t even remotely hide his Ottsel ears and fuzzy fingers, but never mind that!). And that’s even to mention other great scenes, like when he meets Tik, a small bug he instantly takes a liking to, giving it a name, and then happily referring to it as his sidekick from then-on out (something Daxter admits he’s “Always wanted”).
But my favorite cutscene has to be right after the first Hover Bike section. When he returns back to Osmo’s shop, he accidentally crashes the bike, causing it to break apart into a couple of pieces. What’s worse, Osmo hears the crash and decides to investigate, prompting Daxter to put on a hilarious “Oh, crap...” face upon realizing this. What ensues next is Daxter, in a complete panic, trying to pick up all the pieces and slamming them together in a desperate attempt to fix the bike (done in a very Looney Tunes-esc montage), before finally putting the cover back over it and trying to convince Osmo that the bike is perfectly fine and doesn’t need to be repaired... which he blurts out, despite Osmo never showing any hints that he believes something’s wrong with it. I swear, this entire cutscene never fails to get a laugh out of me!
Daxter certainly makes the cutscenes something very entertaining, which is one of many reasons why I love playing the game so much. What else is there to say, but... give it up for the Daxternator!
