Day 004: Vindicated.
Featuring Eddie Munson, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Steve Harrington, Chief Hopper, Dr. Owens and Mike Wheeler.
Mentioned Max Mayfield.
830 words and while this is canon divergent, spoilers are here, I guess?
“So let me get this straight, I almost died to demon bats, and was bleeding out, but this didn’t give me superpowers?!” Eddie says, laying in his hospital bed, staring at Dustin, Mike, and Lucas. He sits up, and tries to lift his left arm, only to hear the jingle of a pair of handcuffs chaining him to the bed. Lucas bites his lip. “Yeah, you’re under arrest here until you’re healed up enough that they can transfer to the jail.” He explains, and Eddie groans. “D@mn! Tell me you at least defeated Vecna.” The boys look at each other, and Dustin pats Lucas’ shoulder. “That’s complicated.” Eddie squints at him, leaning closer. “Uncomplicate it, then.” Mike swallows. “El defeated Vecna in Max’s mind, but she’s--” He looks at Lucas again. Eddie frowns. “Is she dead?” He asks, hoping that he was wrong about the looks that were being exchanged. “She’s in a coma. But Vecna was still able to merge our worlds, and now Hawkins is split into four chunks by large fractures. But Steve and them said they hit Vecna’s actual body, but we’re not sure if he survived?” He says, and Eddie grimaces. “Not what I wanted to hear after my near death experience.”
The door opens, and Steve walks in. “Oh, you’re awake.” Eddie laughs, but winces as his sides burn and sear from pain. “Don’t sound too excited, Harrington.” He says, biting back a whine. Steve rolls his eyes, which Eddie takes as a win. He sees Steve’s eyes wander to his handcuffed hand. “Hopper is trying to pull some strings so you can go free. In fact, the only reason we’re allowed in here is because he managed to call in a few favors.” Eddie frowns. “Wait, Hopper? As in the chief of police that died in the mall fire last summer?” Dustin clears his throat. “That wasn’t a fire, and Hopper apparently has been locked in a Russian prison these past eight months.” Eddie purses his lips. “What do you mean it wasn’t a fire? And a Russian prison?” He asks, and Steve chuckles. “Munson, if something happens in this town, assume it’s Upside Down related.” Eddie looks down at his lap. “Okay, but Russians, in Hawkins?” Steve and Dustin nod, serious looks on their faces. Eddie ducks his head. “What have I stumbled into?” He asks, mumbling about Russians.
The door opens, and Chief Jim Hopper walks in, with an older man and a cop. “Alright, release the kid.” Hopper says to the cop, who sighs, and walks up to Eddie. Steve steps out of the way, and the cop pulls out a pair of keys. He unlocks the cuffs, and leaves. Eddie rubs his wrist, looking at Hopper. “Okay, I appreciate you freeing me and everything, but how?” He asks, and the older guy passes him a clipboard with a form on it. “Well, Mr. Munson, I’m Dr. Owens. I’m with the government. I was the one that pardoned you. You are a free man, just try to avoid viewing supernatural murders.” He says, patting Eddie’s leg. As if I was trying to see Chrissy Cunningham on my ceiling with her arms and legs snapped backwards and her eyes exploded! He looks at the other people in the room to see if they react to this information, only to see no signs of surprise or confusion. Who the hell are these people? He wonders, but grabs the clipboard. “What’s this, then?” Dr. Owens sighs. “It’s a non disclosure agreement. It’s an agreement in contract law that certain information will remain confidential, we give it to anyone involved with the Upside Down for their protection.” Eddie looks at everyone else incredulously.
“You all signed these?” They all nod. He swallows, and grabs the pen on the clip at the top. “If I hadn’t gone through this sh!t myself, I would think you guys were insane.” He says, before signing the document. Dr. Owens takes the clipboard, and claps his hands. He gestures to the door. “Let’s give Mr. Munson some peace and quiet so he can regain his strength.” The kids nod, and Dustin gives him a gentle hug before leaving. Hopper and Dr. Owens leaves next, leaving Eddie alone with Steve. “Need something, Harrington?” He asks, and Steve clears his throat. “Dustin told me what you did, y’know.” He says, and Eddie scoffs. “Didn’t really do much, just got mauled by demon bats.” Steve shakes his head. “You protected him, and lured the bats away so we had a chance, so I guess this is me saying thanks. And well, you didn’t run away, which seems like some hero sh!t if I ever heard it.” He tacks on at the end, with a smile. Eddie smiles back. “You’re welcome, Harrington.” Steve chuckles. “I’ll let you lie down, see you around, Munson.” Eddie grins, giving him a two finger salute as a goodbye. You aren’t so bad, Steve Harrington.
Day 004: Hatchling
She tried her best to muffle the chirps and trills that came from her messenger bag. She looked around frantically to make sure no one had heard them. Thankfully she was alone. With one more double check that no one had followed her, she peaked into the side bag. A small green dragon, merely a hatchling, poked their nose out of the bag. She couldn’t help but smile.
“I still need to figure out a name for you. What do you think?” She found a spot on the grass and perched the bag in her lap. She reached out and scratched under the reptile’s chin. The little dragon chirped in response. She laughed, “I’ll take that as a yes.”
“His name is Fen,” A voice from behind her startled her. She immediately wrapped the dragon in her arms, and hid them from view. She peered over her shoulder cautiously.
She nervously cleared her throat, “Excuse me?”
“The dragon you have in your arms,” She watched as a man made his way out of the forest behind her. She tried to close the messenger bag but the dragon pushed their way out of her arms and hurried towards the unfamiliar man. Her heart stopped as she threw the bag and scrambled to catch him. She watched as the green dragon hopped along the ground, avoiding her attempts to gram them, right to the man’s feet. She could see clearly now the long pointed ears that poke out of his white hair. He reached down and picked up the reptile, eyes momentarily softening before returning his glare at her.
“Who are you?” Her breathing suddenly felt shallow.
“If you must know, I’m this little one’s caretaker.”
