In answer to your tumblr question- just keep at it! Whatever you want to write about. It's all so loving and inspiring and written from the heart. However, my favorite of yours is still OMS, oh, and when Jim sees something in Spock that no one else does. My heart literally skips a beat.

Am I late to the party, or what? I think your specialty is a Spock who loves unconditionally. I refer in this instance to moments such as those experienced in "Darkly." Despite everything the characters experienced in that story, Spock went on loving Jim, even when all hope appeared gone. It still fills me with such strong emotion, and resonates with me even now.

Hi Day!  Oh, you have no idea how it touches my heart to have someone say they enjoyed “Darkly”.  That fic pulled so much out of me emotionally, even with its modest length, and I feel so proud of it.  Yes, the unconditional love aspect is something I like to explore in the K/S dynamic.  

Out of all the fictional love affairs I’ve read about and watched unfold on the screen, ‘Jim and Spock’ truly represent, for me, the ideal of true love in its broadest and most inclusive sense.  Timeless, aware of duty, selfless, honorable, and passionate.  It can be interpreted as non-sexual or otherwise (obviously you know where I stand on that!), but the powerful connection between them is inspirational and compelling.  It is hopeful simply by its being, and is why I love those characters.  I try to do right by that love in my stories, no matter which universe they inhabit, or the struggles they face.

Besides Star Trek (obviously,) where do you draw your inspiration for the sci-fi element of your stories?

Hi Day!

Aha!  That’s a great question!  I draw from books and movies, and things I see every day.  I read a lot of non-fiction about the period of the Reformation in England and that contributes to some of the personal intrigue.  The spiders in “Acquisition” were inspired by a picture one of my kids had hanging on his closet door as well as a large spider that spent several weeks on our front porch last year.  I also am inspired to a large extent by music; I usually have music playing when I write, and it can really help to capture the mood of wonder that sci-fi requires.  (I hope).  :)

Hi Day!  Let’s see…

4: How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

Well, I actually was trying to organize this last night and I have my handy dandy notecard right…here… .  I’ve got five that have at least some thought into them, and four with actual words on-screen.  One of them is something I rambled about before: bringing mirror!Spock into the normal!Verse.  I don’t want to give too much away, but he has a plan and it involves taking Jim back with him.  What does normal!Spock have to do to save the man he now realizes could be his bondmate?  *cue dramatic music*

12: Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

“Amok Time” has all the feels, but also “The Omega Glory”, believe it or not, “Doomsday Machine”, and “Balance of Terror”.

13: What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Never stop trying to improve, and look for inspiration everywhere: songs, people, conversations, feelings.

17: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Mostly from start to finish, but some scenes hit my brain ahead of time, and I can feel the story shifting to adjust for them.

20: Describe your perfect writing conditions.

Well, right now I write after the kids go to bed, which means that I’m tired OR I write during five to ten minute breaks during the day which means that I’m rushed.  So, ideal would be kids at my mother’s, a large fountain soda and pretzels, and everything else (house, part-time jobs, spouse, bills, other crap) somewhat under control.  One can dream, right?

38: Talk about a review that made your day.

There have been reviews where I can tell that the reader “got” something subtle that I was trying for, or that the reader escaped into the experience of reading and was emotionally invested in the storyline.  I love those reviews.  And if someone tells me that they re-read one of my stories over and over?  Gold.
