I Promise I’ll Always be There
Day Four Prompt: Promises/Always (Miraxus)
Laxus let out a groan as the wails of their newborn reached his ears. It had been two months since their son had been born and he still was waking up every night screaming.
Mira had become extremely temperamental during the day because she hadn’t been getting practically no sleep. She always apologized after snapping at him, normally bright blue eyes bloodshot and weary.
“I’ll get him.” He said quietly, placing a gentle arm on Mira’s shoulder as she was about to sit up.
“You sure?” She asked, voice still husky with sleep.
“Yeah, I got this. Just go back to sleep.”
“Mm, thanks.” She mumbled, settling back down and almost immediately falling back asleep.
Laxus pulled the blankets up over her shoulder, kissed her temple and then slid out of bed and made his way to the nursery.
“What’s wrong, little man?” He said, leaning over the side of the crib to scoop the screaming infant up. “You know sleep is good for you, and when you whine all night your mama and I can’t get our rest.” He winced. “And Mira’s even more of a demon when she’s sleep deprived.”
He bounced his son gently up and down, trying to calm him and stop his crying. “Mako, what is there to cry about? You scared of the dark or something?” He snorted. “The dark can’t hurt you, so there’s no use crying about it.”
The more he talked the quieter Mako got, so Laxus rambled on, low voice rumbling in his chest as he spoke quietly.
“You know you don’t ever have to be afraid of anything, right? With your mama and I here to protect you there isn’t anything that could hurt you. And of course once you’re old enough we’ll teach you how to kick ass all on your own.”
Mako let out a little growl which caused Laxus to chuckle.
“There we go.” He sighed and ruffled the small, fluffy white hair on his son’s head. “I promise I won’t ever let you down, I’ll always be there for you for anything you need. I’ll protect you until you can protect yourself, and even then I’ll still be there for you for whatever you need.”
Mako yawned, letting out a small sound as his eyelids drooped and he snuggled up against his dad’s chest.
Laxus smiled and lightly kissed his head. “Sleep tight, little man.”
