HIIIIII this song is such a throwback for me!! used to listen to it alll the time and now it’s been on repeat ever since you sent this ask! shifting the meaning for meee because you’re so right, it fits him so unbelievably well. the part about how he misses her more than he thought that he could, metaphors of fire and not being able to handle the heat, the concept of love feeling so treacherous as literal hell to him, it would be ruinous !! but he wants her to ruin his life anyway! and especiallyyyy the pieces about wanting her to fuck up his nights. goddd it fits so so well! it’s full of so much pining and yearning. and even the pieces about if she makes it all wrong, he can make it all right (his savior complex and also just general self-sacrificial, problem-solving approach to basically anything and everything). the lines of missing her pushing him close to the edge, that’s one piece i really love about them. they’re both a lot to each other but they appreciate that. he explicitly wants her to be as loud and big and intrusive as possible, despite how much he pretended to hate / initially hated it.
