also here’s my other art style. It’s my favorite, out of the 15 ones I have. I’m a little silly haha. I decided to make him not smiling btw. I noticed that Xeno Trunks has rbf.
OK, I do agree that GT isn't canon to the manga, but it is canon to the anime. There may be some characters like Valese, Garlic Jr, Baby and Maron and concepts like the Baby Saga that are not manga canon but they're definitely anime canon.
So, here's how I categorize the "canon" of DB...
Firstly, I do not separate things into "manga canon" & "anime canon." I will explain how I separate things.
Second, there is "canon" & there is "continuity." Beyond that, each continuity has its own canon.
I have separated the continuities into 3. The Main Continuity, the Gand Side Story Continuity, & the Time Partol Continuity.
Now to get down to how I separate the main continuity from the others...
TL;DR
Main Continuity: DB, DBZ, DBS's split continuity. (Certain filler.)
Grand Side-Story Continuity: DBZ Movies 1-13, most DBZ filler, DBGT. (OG Dragon Ball Movies & Path To Power.)
Time Patrol Continuity: Online, Heroes, Xenoverse.
Meaning certain events & characters are only canon to their respective continuity.
SSJ4 is canon to the Grand Side-Story Continuity.
SSB is canon to the Main Continuity.
SSJ Rosé 3 is canon to the Time Patrol Continuity.
MAIN CONTINUITY
This is Toriyama's original manga. The anime adapted this and add things to it. Most of what the anime added are not part of the main continuity. Only a few things added are actually canon to the main continuity. These include certain anime only scenes that Toriyama himself wanted included;
Launch searching for Tien in DBZ
Piccolo creating a duplicate to spar with in the RoSaT
The separation of the Living World & Other World
The Grand Kai & The Supreme Kai of the cardinal directions
Tenshinhan being a farmer who does not train all the time like fans inaccurately claim
Krillin sarcificing himself against Super Buu to buy the others time
(I don't have links for all of them atm. Only the link about the gods and the universe)
So, these certain filler are considered part of the Main Continuity.
+ DRAGON BALL SUPER (Split Continuity)
This is where things get a bit confusing. DBS is part of the Main Continuity, but is split in 2 Continuities as well; DBS Anime & DBS Manga. Toriyama writes a manuscript and the anime staff and manga writers adapt it separately. This is why events are similar but different, why characters are depicted differently, and why power levels & techniques differ between anime & manga too.
DBS Anime Continuity includes the DBS anime only episodes, DBS: Broly, & DBS: Super Hero. (Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken is anime only.)
DBS Manga Continuity includes DBS manga only scenes, and for now the Galactic Prisoner Saga & Granolah The Survivor Saga. (Mastered Super Saiyan Blue is manga only.)
The "DBZ: Battle of Gods" & "DBZ: Resurrection F" films are in a way the manuscripts for the "God of Destruction Beerus Saga" & "Golden Freeza Saga" of the DBS Anime Continuity & Manga Continuity.
GRAND SIDE-STORY CONTINUITY
A continuity that mirrors the Main Continuity. I call this the "Grand Side-Story Continuity" because Toriyama called DBGT a "grand side-story."
Now in regards to things that are NOT part of the Main Continuity? Those include the DBZ films, (minus Battle of Gods & Resurrection F) some filler scenes, & filler arcs. These are not part of the Main Continuity.
DBZ Movies 1-13. Although Toriyama designed most of the characters in the Z movies, this does not make them part of the Main Continuity.
The Golden Oozaru that was shown in a brief filler scene when Vegeta was talking about the Legendary Super Saiyan. That was Toei taking liberties that don't line up with what Toriyama had planned. But that scene lines up with GT's Golden Oozaru & SSJ4 (more on GT later).
The Fake Planet Namek stuff & scenes on Planet Namek. Example being dead Vegeta randomly being naked and able to talk to Goku when he should be a spirit in Other World being sent to Hell.
The filler Garlic Jr. Saga is directly connect to DBZ Movie 1. So, that saga & characters like Maron (I call her "Malon") are not canon to the Main Continuity.
The filler scenes where Bulma is falling for Vegeta because they contradict the main continuity where Vegeta is still evil and hateful. (This was Toei attempting to connect a story before they fully knew what Toriyama had planned. It contradicts his story.)
Other World Tournament Saga. It's cool, but it's depiction of the dead residing Hell contradicts Toriyama's DB interpretation of Hell. The evil do not get to have physical physical form. A physical form is only given to a select few who are sent to Other World.
Great Saiyawoman. Despite how much I like the idea of Videl as a caped crusader, Saiyawoman seems to not be part of the Main Continuity. Nothing in the manga suggests Videl becomes such. Saiyawoman only appears in DBZ filler episode 287, in Movie 13, & in DBGT.
Dragon Ball GT. One reason is because the series has the depiction of the dead who reside in Hell all have a physical form. Another reason is because enemies from the DBZ Movies are seen in DBGT episode 42 when the villains are released from Hell. And because the 13 DBZ Movies are shown to be connected to GT, I consider GT a continuiation of the Z Movies. GT is like Movie 13. It takes place after a saga, but creates its own story based off of the series.
Dragon Ball Movies & Path To Power Movie. I still have to do research on these to see where they truly fit in. Path To Power is a GT Movie that retells arcs of early DB, & the DB movies retell early DB arcs. One or the other fits into the Grand Side-Story Continuity. (UPDATE: I'm pretty sure that Path To Power is in it's own continuity)
TIME PATROL CONTINUITY
Sometimes I call it the Xeno or Online Continuity. Might stick with "Time Patrol" for a while.
This one is much more simple. These involve the DB games. There are 3 in particular; DB Online, DB Heroes, & Xenoverse. The games involve Chronoa correcting changes to the the timeline. These events are not referenced in the Main Continuity nor the Grand Side-Story Continuity because it is part of its own continuity.
