Can you explain more about FOMO means?
I sure can here is a condensed version of my research:
The fear of missing out is not necessarily a new phenomenon in our society; however, its heightened prevalence in the past years can be directly attributed to modern technology. The lure of the digital world is just too much for many in today’s society. As psychologist and founder and CEO of Psych Central, Dr. John Grohol, points out “the fear of missing out — on something more fun, on a social date that might just happen on the spur of the moment — is so intense, even when we’ve decided to disconnect, we still connect just once more, just to make sure.” FOMO is a cyclical phenomenon; social media draws you in, and then keeps you coming back with the lure of not only “likes” and “follows”, but the opportunity to see what everyone else is doing at any given moment. Research being conducted to learn more about the growing FOMO phenomenon has found interesting information about the demographics most affected and the details of the digital obsession. “Researchers found that people under the age of 30 were more affected than others from the fear of missing out. This group saw social media as an important tool for them and they were more dependent on social media as part of their social development.” Similar research has been done that gives rather disturbing insight into the habits of those affected by FOMO: “Researchers found that individuals with a high level of fear of missing out were more likely to give into the temptation of composing and checking text messages and e-mails while driving. These individuals were also more likely to get distracted by social media during university lectures, and had more mixed feelings about their social media use.”
