A/N: I know realistically Connor wouldn’t use his real name but I just HAD to also there all human!
The rain poured outside the large glass window at the top of Cyberlife headquarters. Thunder rolled across the dark clouds moving closer to the tower. Connor watched the rain sliding down the glass while waiting for the director, Elijah Kamski. Inside the plain sterile meeting room was a large frosted glass table with black chairs neatly surrounding it. The room was brightly lit from the rounded lights handing just above the table.
“Connor, we really must stop meeting under such circumstances,” Elijah mussed gliding into the room wearing a sleek suit with a long coat dragging gracefully behind him.
“Director,” Connor replied extending a hand to him. Elijah laughed and pulled Connor into a brief embrace.
“Formality always bored me. I called you here because of Jericho. Oh I almost forgot,” Elijah pressed his earpiece “Chloe, dear can you bring the-thank you,” he asked before sitting in the chair closest to the door and propping his feet on the table.
“Jericho? The new settlement in Michigan? Has something occurred?” Connor asked taking a seat across from Elijah. The director simple nodded before his assistant walked in placing the holographic projector on the table and hitting play.
The video was of Markus Manfred speaking to a large crowd of approximately two hundred. Markus was gesturing to the crowd with a gentle smile on his face. He was dressed in casual clothes with a long beige coat dragging on the wooden stage. His audience seemed captivated, holding on to every word their leader said. Markus was talking about rA9 a mysterious figure or deity that was somehow related to the people of Jericho. The video abruptly ended automatically turning the projector off.
Elijah stood gingerly picking up the projector before turning towards the large glass door. Connor jolted out of his seat glancing between the now empty screen and Elijah.
“Wait! Derector, what is exactly the mission?”
“Infiltrate Jericho,” Elijah said letting the door softly close behind him.
Five hours later Connor was seated at Jimmy’s bar after being fully debriefed by Amanda Stern the Executive Assistant Director for Counterintelligence. Next to him sat his partner Hank Anderson who use to work for the Detroit police before moving up to the FBI.
“Now tell me again what the hell you’re doin’?” Hank asked talking a drink of his whiskey.
“All the director said was the infiltrate Jericho.”
“What an asshole,” Hank said shaking his head and patting Connor on the shoulder, “So, what the hell is Jericho?”
“It's the new community out in the country established around 2030 by Markus Manfred. So far their peaceful and claim they just want to be free,” Connor answered while reading through the thin folder in front of him.
“Claim?”
“All cults start out with good intentions.”
Connor cautiously approached a tall metal gate with ornate decoration curving across the bars. He was meeting one of the leaders of Jericho who was in charge of welcoming and integrating new community members. Their was little information in the debriefing on Simon Warren, only that he grew up in Detroit and is close to Markus. Connor peered through the gate to see the silhouette of a man walking towards him, hold a large set of keys.
“Hey! My names Connor!” He yelled waving his hands at the man.
“Simon!” The keyholder yelled back jogging slightly to reach the gate, “It's a pleasure to meet you, Connor.”
“Sorry for the wait, long walk from town ha,” Simon laughed flipping through the keys before finally unlocking the gate and swinging it opened.
“Come on in, the ceremony will begin in two hours so don’t worry!”
“Wait, ceremony?” Connor asked stepping in Jericho watching Simon relock the gate.
“Oh, sorry! Don’t worry you don’t have to do anything weird it is simple introduction and an informative event.” Simon smiled walking down the path next to Connor.
