kaishin au where kaito has retired as KID but KID's participation in the black org worldwide takedown is public knowledge so as soon as shinichi reveals that he's dating pro magician kuroba kaito, everyone immediately connects the dots and it basically becomes an open secret that kuroba kaito IS kaitou KID. kaito definitely has his fun with denying it and also dancing on the line of acknowledging it.
meanwhile law enforcers all over the world can't touch him at all cause he hasn't done anything criminal in public since his full pardon and subsequent retirement LMAO
things kaito does to annoy law enforcers toe the line:
kaito wearing his full original kaitou KID suit with the card gun for a halloween photo shoot
kaito taking selfies inside the interpol office that one time he tagged along when shinichi was called over for a case
kaito throwing a peace sign and having the biggest grin in a photo with a very unamused president of interpol and shinichi who's trying not to laugh
always dodging the kaitou KID allegations with a "oh you think i'm kaitou KID? i'm so flattered, i'm a huge fan of his!"
in a vanity fair lie detector test interview, they straight up ask him if he's kaitou KID and he looks into the camera and says yes with the biggest shit-eating grin but the device says it's a lie (cos he rigged it lol) and kaito just smiles and says, "but is it though?"
buying up every fan-made kaitou kid merch and wearing/using them in public
using known and obvious kaitou KID skills like voice mimicry and disguises as party tricks on tv guestings with 0 shame and shrugs off comparisons to KID with, "any good magician can do this." which is so not true
the entire division 2 swears on their life that it can't be kaito. "he was just a kid! how could he be that damn thief?" they say while kaito nods and agrees, "i know right, couldn't be me!" right in front of division 1 detectives who definitely know.
nakamori is the biggest denier saying, "kid's been running around since before this brat was even born." knowing full well that kaito is DEFINITELY kaitou kid because kaito came clean to him and aoko after everything was over. it was a painful and messy conversation but eventually kaito was forgiven. aoko still holds this over his head though when she wants him to treat her out.
hakuba is in the worst position of no longer pursuing KID after he got pardoned (honestly even way before that but he would deny it) while at the same time having the urge to reveal it all whenever kaito pulls out his pout and whines, "tell them, hakuba! i can't be kaitou kid right? cos if i was then surely you would've arrested me already back when we were classmates right??? right????" if only i could kill this man, hakuba sighs.
