Respect one another. This really ought to go without saying, but it's important that our members respect one another out of character. It's okay for their to be some tension between characters (such as Lynda and Olivia) but it's not okay for our members to be disrespectful of one another. If you don't like someone, we're not going to force you to play with them. We do, however, expect you to be civil.
Put others first. We've noticed a big problem in role play groups that too often the members put themselves and their own needs and problems first. This leads to a group of complainers, and that's not something we want to see here at Die Carefully. We'd like to see everybody put the other members and their plots before their own. Don't worry: If everybody follows this rule, everybody wins and nobody is left out.
Tag your triggers. It doesn't particularly bother me one way or another whether or not your triggers are tagged, but I do understand that there may be some people going through the tags who could potentially run into something they don't want to see. Please make sure to tag blood, sex, drugs and other triggers which may come up from time to time. Our purpose here isn't to trigger anyone.
Follow the main and subscribe to the OOC blog. This is how I communicate with our members. If you don't follow the main, then you may miss something important. Please make sure that you're following it and that you track the tags listed below. We also expect you to participate in the OOC blog as well. Getting to know your other role players helps to ensure you continue to be a contributor!
Please be active. This goes without saying. No role playing group can survive without regular activity and we do want for everyone to participate. We'll be doing activity checks every Sunday evening, and members who haven't been active for a week will lose their character (if canon) or face (if original). Once a week isn't too much for us to ask of you, as this is a relatively slow pace.
Tasks will be issued twice a month on the first and third Mondays of the month. These are usually considered mandatory and are one way for us to check your activity to make sure that you're still interested in being part of the group. Some tasks may pair you up with another character and others will give you an opportunity to develop your headcanon for the character you're playing. For mandatory tasks, all characters are expected to participate!
Let us know if you need a hiatus. We won't bite and we won't fault you for needing to disappear for a while. You may take a hiatus of up to one month. After that, you risk your role being reopened if we have inquiries about it, so please try not to take more than a month to be away. This is the most you should need for anything school-related.
Try to reply to starters. Before starting a new starter, check to see if there are unanswered starters on the starter tag. This way you can make sure that you're remaining active with the other members of the group. Starting a new starter is no guarantee of a response, but if you reply to somebody else, you're encouraging activity. Try to keep this in mind.
Start new threads once you've checked the starter tag. Try to start new threads as often as you're capable of keeping up with more threads. This will encourage more activity on the dash. Take some responsibility for making sure that things keep moving around here! To prove that you've read the rules, write Ouroboros in the "anything else" section of the app.
With few exceptions, only control your own character. Most of our characters can't read minds. Even if Destiny can see your future in your palm, this isn't the same as mind-reading. Please don't write the feelings, thoughts or actions for another character, and don't put your hands on another person's character. Let them decide if you've touched them. If you need tips for how to manage this, please let me know!
Please post in paragraphs. This is predominantly a paragraph role play and for that reason we would like to see our members post paras. You are welcome to post an occasional gif chat, but they shouldn't go on for hundreds of notes as gif chats. Consider making long-term gif chats into paras so that we can continue working through plots.
Cut your posts. You don't need more than your partner's post and your reply in a single post. If you're doing a group thread than you may include responses from the other partners as well, but try not to include more than three or four posts in a single post. This just clutters up the dashboard. Also make sure that you're reblogging as text and not as a link!
Please avoid making major changes or plots without consulting the admin team. Death, pregnancies, pregnancy and infant loss and marriage all qualify as major plots which need to be discussed with the staff before heading forward with them. Please make sure that you talk to us before doing anything like this! We'd really appreciate knowing what's going on.
Dealing with death. Some characters are going to die. If you've watched the series, you know that some of the playable characters in this game are either going to die at some point or we're going to separate ourselves from the canon. Please be gracious when this happens and simply choose a different character to play once your character dies. Death posts are encouraged.
