Have you ever had to correct someone about DC's stories or characters? Had someone "um actually" you and they ended up being wrong? Just plain tired of seeing the same incorrect take over and over again?? Then this tournament is for you!

If there's a commonly held belief about DC that you know isn't true, share your knowledge and submit to the tournament. It's your chance to let others know how things really are!

Rules

Fill out the form with a short name to refer to your entry by (the thing that isn't true), and then describe in more depth what the misconception is, what the truth is, and why it matters.

Your entry should be about commonly held beliefs by fans. Writers sometimes get things wrong, which can cause misconceptions, but try to focus what you submit on the reader/viewer interpretations and not the work itself. (Okay to use the work as evidence)

You can submit for any universe and any media type, just be clear in your summary which you're referring to. For example, "Barry Allen has blonde hair" might be a misconception for the Arrowverse, but is true for comic books main continuity.

Make sure the misconception you submit is actually something wrong. And especially make sure that what you describe as the truth is right!

The DC KO Prediction Tournament!

The DC KO event will be upon us this fall, so before it comes out, how about a little tournament to see if we can predict the outcome!

Aside from the placements that have already been announced, our match ups are at random, so everything here is just for fun. I mean, who knows what will happen in the actual comic. Who will fight against who? Why did they pick these specific characters? Will an ultimate winner even be declared by the end?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There's really no telling, so instead let's see how our own battles go.

DC has billed this as a "death tournament" and "cosmic throwdown" as a "five-level gladiatorial arena emerges from the Earth itself, each descending level testing the heroes in brutal and symbolic ways." So make sure you're voting accordingly!

Hey DC fans! Do you know of a comics story that is completely off the wall, hard to believe, or possibly even batshit (no pun intended) crazy? Is there a story arc, a series of events, or even just a scene that would boggle the minds of non comics fans if they only knew? Have you ever found yourself reading a comic and just plain going "WTF"? If so, then this tournament is for you!

Submit the weirdest, most shocking, wackiest or unbelievable events from DC comics and let's find out which one takes the cake!

Rules

Has to be related to a published work by DC or one of its imprints

Can range anywhere between a single scene to a full story arc. It could even be some meta about the writers or publication history as long as it's based on facts (ie not fan speculation).

It can be something silly, disturbing, tone deaf, miraculous, idiotic, etc. Sky's the limit as long as it follows the other rules and it leaves people surprised that it really happened!

Note: Please do your best to avoid events where the wtf aspect is entirely due to mischaracterization. We've already done "they would not fucking say that", so even though this one's similar, try to shoot for the unbelievable-factor.

Once submissions are closed and the posts go up, put your propaganda in reblogs so it's easy for others to find.

Submissions will be open for two weeks, so that should give you plenty of time to research. If you'd like to do more than one submission, feel free.

Announcing our next tournament...

The DC Comics Body Swap Brawl!

The concept is simple! Characters enter the brawl, they are then randomly body swapped with each other, and finally they're placed on small teams where they'll have to work together while navigating their new physical forms. Which team will be left standing in this single-elimination tournament fight? Submit your favorite DC heroes or villains and find out!

Update: Entries closed as of March 16

The entry form will be open for as long as needed to build the teams, with a maximum of 48 character slots. Space is limited, so get yours in sooner rather than later! We'll have an update when we're close to our quota as a reminder.

Questions in the form will be used to create character profiles and team rosters for quick reference. The information submitted doesn't have to cover every single detail of a character, just the main points they're known for.

The Body Swap

When a character is body swapped, they will be referred to by the name of the person whose psyche is in the body. For example, the screenshot above is of Lex Luthor even though he's in Flash's body. Characters retain all their memories, personality and mental skills, but they gain the physical traits of the body they're in. Sometimes this is a benefit and sometimes it's not!

The Brawl

On teams of three, characters will have to work together to KO all members of the other team using their new, unique set of traits. Each round will take place in a different setting, which may or may not be to a character's advantage. Will they get along with their teammates? Will they tactically beat their opponents? Will they even be able to function in their new bodies??

This means you as the voters must debate who will win and why. Give compelling arguments about how the fight would go down, and sway others to vote accordingly. Keep all discussion in reblogs, tags or comments so everyone can find the info easily.

An initial post will come out a few days prior to each poll, which will then be added as a reblog. This should give people time to mull things over before voting. And be sure to look at the notes before voting yourself! You never know what kind of a-ha moments someone else might come up with!

Presenting our next DC Comics event, a double-header tournament...

✨Best Glow Up✨

🤢 Worst Downgrade 🤢

That's right, we're doing two in one folks! You voted for "Best Glow Up", but that's only one side of the spectrum. So in addition to finding out who rose from the ashes to shine the brightest, we're also going to see which character had the "Worst Downgrade"!

What We're Looking For

Glow Up - This can be looks, personality, place in life, or anything else that bumps a character up from where they were to where they are. Comics has an abundant history of highs and lows, so show us characters at their peak!

Downgrade - Similar to glow up, this can also be looks, personality, etc etc etc. Lets see our favorite characters at their worst, at their most cringefail, at their absolute lowest. Show us how far they've fallen! But remember, every character is someone's blorbo, so keep in mind this is in good fun.

For both of these, we are talking in-universe! So a choice about what a character is drawn wearing is valid, but the art style itself is not.

We are accepting any highs and lows from a character's history through the years. That means it doesn't necessarily have to be what is considered canon at this point in time, nor does it have to include where they're at today in current comics. As long you can describe what they were like before vs what they were like some time after, any time period is fair game.

As for different universes, these are valid comparisons if the two versions really are of the same character, and a clear before and after can be identified. For example, you could compare Golden Age Superman to Silver Age Superman or even Snyderverse Superman since all of those are Clark Kent. You might even be able to make a compelling enough case for comparing him to Ultraman.

DC Comics "They Would Not Fucking Say That!" Poll Tournament

Tournament & Submission Rules

Hello and welcome to our very first tournament! By popular demand, the theme of this competition is "They would not fucking say that!"

This means we are looking for dialog or an action from official DC source material that is painfully, woefully, egregiously out of character (ooc). Let's call this the "Incident". You will need to describe the incident, provide the in-universe context for it, and make a case for why this is ooc.

How and when can I submit?

Submissions open as soon as this post goes live, which is Saturday August 12.

Submissions close Wednesday August 23, at 11:00pm EDT (same time zone as New York).

What kind of incident can I submit?

You may submit any single exchange of dialog or single action that occurred in official DC media by a DC character. It must be specific and concise, and not a general overarching way that a character or storyline is handled. You will have a whole "go off" type of section to explain, so save the context and arguments for that. The incident itself should be fairly specific!

Dialog doesn't have to be one single sentence, but do your best to keep it to only the ooc part and be as brief as possible.

Even though the theme of this tournament has "say" in it, we are allowing actions, decisions, etc. Again, keep it to only the ooc portion.

Can I submit more than one incident?

Yes! Just keep in mind to submit only the most heinous of ooc situations.

Note: Multiple entries for the same incident won't affect its standings. But I will do my best to combine the info so that each submitter's voice is heard.

Is this limited to print comics?

No, any DC property is allowed, but keep in mind that you should be clear when making your case if the incident was ooc for that particular incarnation of the character, or if it's relative to comics canon.

You will have to specify what medium or universe they are from. Examples include Arrowverse, DCAU, Webtoon, Post-Flashpoint comics, etc.

How is the bracket handled?

It is very likely we'll have a preliminary round to help with seeding. This would be an opportunity to let the community weigh in on adherence to the theme and interpretation of the incident.

If there is not a preliminary due to low number of entries, and if the submitted incidents seem about evenly weighted, we will go with random seeding.

The tournament will be single elimination. If we somehow get an exorbitant number of submissions, we may do a multi-armed bracket with round robin for the finalists. More detail will be provided here if this happens.

At the moment there is not a set schedule, and pacing will depend on number of entries. So your best bet on catching the next wave of polls is to follow this blog.

Polls will run for seven days each so that there's plenty of time to vote, share and discuss in the reblogs.

Voters should only consider how much of a character assassination the incident is. This means your love or hate for a writer, story or character should not be the deciding factor for your vote.

Can I send in propaganda for an incident once polls are live?

If you want to bolster the argument for an incident being ooc, put it in a reblog! This way it stays with the poll and everyone knows where to look for some extra info.

It is not recommended to send asks with propaganda, as these end up getting buried.

Some Extra Info

In an attempt to shake up the status quo, we're doing a lightning fast, super quick, non-standard tournament. So if this isn't your jam, we'll get back to regularly scheduled brackets soon. But for now the idea is to try a low barrier-to-entry event. And because it's a bit more experimental, we're not doing one of the more popular prompts. Just something simple.

How is it a "speed tournament" you ask? Why, that's because we're only going to run two rounds. Yep. That's it. Like I said, it's an experiment! So I'm interested to see how people end up liking the format. Instead of drawing things out over the course of several months, we'll have our conclusion in early November.

You may notice in the form that it doesn't ask you to justify your submission. That's because another goal of this experiment is to see if providing zero justification in the posts will encourage people to reblog or comment and weigh in with their own propaganda. After all, our goal is to get people interacting and involved!

And the last item I want to address is that this is not a head-to-head bracket style tournament. We're taking advantage of the fact that tumblr polls allow several options at once, and hopefully we'll get plenty of entries to spin up a few polls in one go. So while it is a known issue that someone losing in one poll may have won if they were in a different poll, I think for the purposes of a low-stakes dance battle, we can allow this.

~DC Madlib Adventure~

Hey all! It's time to launch into our next event. As mentioned previously, instead of a tournament, this one's going to be VERY experimental. We're going to see if we can make a choose your own adventure, but generate some of what happens madlibs-style! Will this even work?? Let's find out!

In the form there are five sets of questions, each with a little overlap between them, so pick a number and that's your set. We might not be able to use everyone's answers since these will become poll options, which of course are limited to twelve. But I think with the sets spread out like this it'll help with the distribution.

I don't know how many responses we'll get, but I will probably modify or close the form as soon as we get enough, so if you want to participate in this portion of the event, do it sooner than later!

Choose Your Own Adventure

After we get all your madlib-style info, it's time to make up our story! I have a loose outline of a little super hero plot that we will follow, but what really unfolds will be determined by everyone voting. So that's the choose your own adventure portion of this thing. I have a feeling it's going to get zany.

Since this event is going to take a large number of polls where each one must happen after the previous ends, we will only have polls open for ONE DAY EACH! Because of this, updates will probably be daily or every other day depending on what time I have available. But this event will hopefully move fast. If you want to get in on the action, check back here frequently so you don't miss anything!

And as a final note, take this event with a light heart. It's a silly idea that's going to generate an even sillier story. Hopefully it goes well and we have some fun. But if we crash and burn, let's all give the train wreck a laugh and we'll try something new next time. So. Will we be able to get our hero to save the day in the end?
