Perion rubs her hair, off her face, offering Annabel a smile. Marble sits at Perion’s side, looking around the farmer’s market. She’s coming off a late shift but wanted to grab some items. The customer ahead of her heads off and she approaches the stand. “Morning Annabel, I’ll take that lavender honey and another nice comb please.” She hands over a woven reusable bag. “How’re the hives doing, better now that I got rid of the badgers?”

He is well aware that she does not want him here, he’s a reminder of what she’s hiding from (family drama is all he assumes, he doesn’t like to know too much). But even though she’s come all the way to Canada, a US Senator’s daughter can’t be left without protection, not with the kind of reputation she has in the media. Jack had done her the favour of dressing more casually, but he still demonstrated a certain energy that was hard to lose after military and personal protection training. A stiffness, an alertness.

“Lindsey,” he calls quietly. “If you’ve gotten settled in, we should go over the itinerary one more time,” Jack says from the doorway of the adjoining room. She’s out of sight at the moment, her suite being larger with a living area and separate sleeping space, while his is more practical. Bronze Bear knew the kind of clients they catered to. It was almost perfectly balanced. Jack holds up a folder. He’d never been a hard ass as a body guard, but he took his job seriously and he didn’t want his ratings quashed by resistant clients.
