Had our first show day at the Bluecoats Opening Night, which featured Rogues Hollow Regiment, Columbus Saints, Cincinnati Tradition, En-Rich-Ment drumline, Bluecoats Alumni, Rhythm in Blue, and the Canton Bluecoats, all in exhibition.
Did a parade + a standstill at the West Virginia Strawberry Festival with the Saints. It was a busy day and it rained the entire time, so the only pictures I was able to take were of other corps' vehicles.
First we have "Little Red" of Rogues Hollow Regiment. I used to march RHR and we got Little Red as an equipment vehicle when I was there.
Next up is Keystone Regiment's trailer. They're familiar faces around SDCA and play on G bugles, though they might technically be a mixed line since they had a trombone as well.
It's our second year doing this festival and it's turning out to be a fun way to ramp up into the drum corps season!
Camp action shot! (Cropped from this post by Columbus Saints)
We had our first camp since folks came back from indoor season. First full ensemble block was outside. I was very glad to see the Saints fam all together and we had some new faces as well. I think we’re on the way to having a solid corps this summer for the Saint’s 20th anniversary!
The Columbus Saints have an active partnership with Wilberforce University, the nation’s oldest private, historically black university, to provide students an accessible path not only to drum corps, but to a collegiate education as well.
DCI article on the partnership between the Columbus Saints Drum & Bugle Corps and Wilberforce University, an Ohio HBCU with a brand-new band program. Members of the Saints are able to skip the audition for the Wilberforce marching band and are automatically eligible for band scholarships. The Saints have a long history of helping students (sometimes, students who didn’t have a music program at their home schools) reach the next level- both for those with DCI ambitions and those looking to build skills for college band. I always appreciated that about the Saints organization, even from before I became a member.
Back in October, the Saints became (as far as we’re aware) the first DCI- and DCA-affiliated corps to perform at an HBCU homecoming when we participated in the Wilberforce homecoming parade. The WU band just spent a long weekend in New Orleans marching in Mardi Gras parades and battling other HBCU bands. I’m excited for this partnership to continually benefit both programs. The Wilberforce “Hounds of Sound” Marching Band will be a band to watch out for in the future!
