Jimmy Novak (1959)

Nobody batted an eye when Rowena MacLeod took back her maiden name after her husband’s passing. So what if the head of Chicago’s Irish mafia would now be a (very) young woman sporting a Scottish surname? Suspecting she had been the one to order the hit had been enough for her husband’s pack to fall in line without so much of a question.

But not everyone knew to bite their tongue. Had he fully realized how ferocious Rowena really was, Jimmy Novak would have kept quiet about his opinion on the matter. But he didn’t and the clan’s accountant was soon summoned for a semi-private meeting with the new boss.

“Mister Novak, please sit,” the red-headed alpha said, her tone sickly sweet. “As you know, with my dear husband’s passing, I am now the head of this wee organization.”

“So I’ve heard,” the omega replied, guessing her amiable demeanor to be all but sincere.

“Marvelous. Now, what you may not know is what I intend to do with it all. Times are changing, James. And with that, new job opportunities are bound to arise.” She leaned forward, holding her fingers up in a steeple. “Tell me now, how do you like the work you do for me?”

“Your husband has always been good to me. The best boss I’ve ever had, actually. And the work’s fine, it’s… you know, it’s accounting. I just can’t tell yet if I’m gonna like working for you.”

Even though he had meant every word, Jimmy immediately regretted his answer, cursing himself for once more speaking without thinking. He knew he had been right to worry when he saw the arrogant glint in the woman’s eyes. He gulped, scared of what could come next.

“You are honest, James. I imagine I should be appreciating that, but I kind of don’t. You know what I mean?”

This time, Jimmy cleared his throat and just gave her a short nod. Yeah, he was in trouble.

It made me cry and that hardly ever happens, all the Sammy feels, and the Dean and Cas feels. I’m sorry I didn’t take pictures of the early stages. A friend of mine that lives in another town asked me to send me pictures of my progress. Had he asked sooner I would have taken pictures of that too. Now it’s just from late stage line arting. Anyway, for those who’re curious this is what it look like when I’m drawing. Slightly chaotic with pencils everywhere. I rarely work with references nowadays but hockey outfits, the cup, those things are new to me so I had to. Plus the author asked specifically for this pic to be Dean and Cas. :) I finished it off in photoshop.

Summary: Things are finally settling back down to normal since Cas gave up his grace to cure Dean of the Mark. Well, as normal as their lives are allowed to get. Sam’s been tracking a series of odd occurrences in Laramie, Wyoming for the last few weeks that looks just enough like a case to finally convince Dean they should go check it out. Whether they like it or not, the goddess responsible for the weirdness in Laramie takes an immediate interest in the three less-than-perfectly-happy hunters who’ve stumbled into her town.

Comments: It has been a long time since I’ve had such a positive reaction to a fic that I wanted to rec it. But I had so many happy feels while reading this fic! I started to bookmark each time I got choked up thinking about our show, and needless to say, my Kindle is full of notes now. The tags on this fic almost had me turn away, because it’s listed as Supernatural RPF AND Supernatural, so I was a little confused. But I am so glad I gave it a chance! It’s an RPF in the same way that the French Mistake could be called RPF, so it wasn’t a problem for me. And it’s canon divergent, and actually full of Destiel fluff. Seriously. Dean and Cas are so lovey dovey in this fic that it is almost of out of character, and I’m surprised at how it didn’t bother me. At least the author finally got them to talk through SO MANY of their issues! Finally! It was a fic full of feels, but of the best kind. I think anyone who ships Destiel, and likes our cast even a little bit, will come away smiling after reading this.
