I’ve got about five days to craft a resume and cover letter for the biggest job opportunity of my life that I actually sort of have a shot at.
It will affect me in a big way financially and in future endeavors and in a huge way in the immediate future (next few months).
The opportunity was presented yesterday.
No pressure.
Game on.
Once again, I love my friends. I say "I wonder how much it would cost to go to Cuba next week?" They say "If you really want to go I can find someone else to take care of my fish for the week." (I stayed for the fish. We had fun together.) I say "What are your favourite places in Canada?" They answer, and just assume I'm going to get there. It's really nice to have people have that kind of... I dunno, confidence? Support? Lack of surprise? Whatever it is, I appreciate it.
I told my mother that I couldn’t drive my sister to the airport this weekend and her response was that it’d better be because I was doing something fun.
She knows I’m unemployed and am struggling to find a job.
She knows I need money and that I stress about that a lot.
She knows I’m having trouble getting myself out of the house each day, and rightly suspects I am failing to do so more days than I admit to.
And she hopes I’m going out to do something fun.
Every month or so I google Betty White, just to make sure things are still good.
I got sent home from work today because there wasn’t enough work for all of us and I’m the new kid on the block.
Truthfully I expect to get laid off this week or next. They already did it once, but for completely unjust reasons, so some of my coworkers convinced them to keep me on. Now that I’ve been around a little bit longer (still not very long) I’ve been able to do some math with the staffing numbers, and they probably shouldn’t have hired me in the first place.
What I am is a swamper, in this case, a person who follows and helps an operator. There’s a general 1:1 ratio that goes on, and I’m now the extra swamper. Sure, they need another operator, and hiring one would resolve the issue, but they haven’t hired one yet, so the issue remains.
I got my first paycheck from them a bit back, and it was short on hours as no one had told me I’d needed to be filling out a time sheet every day in order to be payed. Not the operator I was training with, not the owner, not the man who hired me. That’s still being sorted out. They’ve also yet to give me a card to clock in and out via machine, so that too fails to inspire confidence. To add literal insult to injury, they’re paying me $0.50 less than they’d originally said they would.
At this point I just hope they fill out the impending paperwork as a layoff and not as me being fired, because that could really hurt me looking for another job and applying for employment insurance, and also because I in no way deserve to be fired.

No matter what crazy plan I say I’ve thought up or which weird-ass job I get myself into they just go with it. They are wonderfully (and perhaps apathetically) accepting.
I was supposed to go to a friend's concert tonight but my insides feel like they gonna 'splode and now I'm sad.
