DCM bit show pitches

Rodney Dangerfield v. Aretha Franklin. All the men play Rodney, all the women play Aretha, and every scene is about respect. Funeral of plaid. Lumberjacks lament the hipster end of their once proud fabric. Thanks dad! Everyone calls their parents and thanks them for paying for improv classes. Hopefully at 3am. 45 mice in a man suit. I play one person, the other 45 people all play my scene partner at the same time. Bwomp! All onomatopoeia improv. 30Rock live! Everyone plays Alec Baldwin. No actual cast members Do you know Greg? Every scene is about people who aren't there. Time and temperature: an improvised NPR weather report. Includes live jazz. Everyone is the boss: a monoscene in a retail outlet where everyone is a manager and no one is an employee. Nap time: we do a bat Harold at 4am and everyone falls asleep. Hmu if you're interested.

Rock bottom

This past DCM found me awake for my 26th straight hour. It was 7am during a theatre cleaning. Daisy was managing so she didn't make me leave. I wanted a mimosa, but realized no place was open and serving mimosas at 7am. So I got a mikes hard lemonade and drank it while sitting on the toilet in the ladies room. I wondered aloud "is this my rock bottom?" It probably wasnt

I want to talk really briefly on what DCM16 meant to me

I know that it was almost a month ago but I wanted to let the experience simmer and breath before talking too much about it. When I landed at JFK I felt, like the Mountain Goats said, so proud to be alive. So happy to be where I wanted to be, making an experience for myself for no other reason than I really wanted to do it. I spent a lot of the past school year really really just barely surviving. I spent a lot of my time in NYC literally lost and learning to be okay with that, to ask for help but also lean on myself. Allowing my friends to be there for me and oh my god were they, carrying me through everything. The top picture here is from waiting in line on the last day. Spending seven hours in line was actually very peaceful, making friends, being there alone was completely fine with me. Lots of five AM train rides, my face sore from smiling. I cannot wait to go next year with my dear Nadia and Hannah. 

I've spending a lot of time this summer doing things that are life affirming- just taking time out to recognize how happy I am, how good things are. Halloween Surprise style. DCM was a full weekend of that. Chaos, commitment, love. Thank you thank you thank you. 

The whole trip had a strong "The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton" vibe, if that make sense.
