DCP FALL 2014 custodial experience
I thought it would be nice to explain my role and work experience during my first program. My role was custodial and I worked at Epcot Future World. Custodial was my #1 choice and it was the role I wanted the most. Custodial is a heavy guest interaction role because, you’re literally a walking map in the parks. There is a lot of freedom within this role because, you get and need to walk everywhere in the parks. I was stopped frequently about my pin lanyard, where to find the nearest restroom, what time Illuminations starts, how to get to World showcase, and any other questions.
At my location, we had less males than females so majority of the females got street shifts over restrooms shifts. Personally, I prefer street shifts because you’re not confined in a smelly bathroom for seven hours. For street shifts, you’re assigned a certain area of the park. You’re in charge of sweeping your area, pulling the trash in your area, and responding to radio calls in your area. For restrooms, you’re in charge of a few restrooms in a certain area. You usually have your main restroom which is usually the busiest and the biggest. Then you have a handful of smaller restrooms which are usually the cast member restrooms or smaller guest restrooms. I’ve picked up custodial shifts in different parks and prefer Epcot over everywhere else. Also the bigger the park it is, it’s going to be split up. For an example, Epcot was split into Future World and World showcase.
Overall, I really liked custodial! It’s a fairly easy role, plenty of guest interaction, and I had really good coworkers. The occasion downfalls were bad weather and a few bad guests. I would do the role again but, this time I wanted something different.
