Learn beyond books... SEE THE WORLD!
From Customs to Castles: -DCPS vs España-
Nearly 8 hours, 3 1/2 movies, and 1 uncomfortable aisle seat later, our crew arrived safely in the beautiful country of España. After some boarding pass bargaining, it’s pretty safe to say most people got to sit where they wanted.*cough cough Not Ms. Ervin*. We also ran into some DCPS HS students who were traveling to Spain as well.
We spent an eternity in the Customs line but our smiles and patience earned us a stamp in the books! After collecting our bags, we were greeted by our wonderful World Strides tour directors- Carmen & Rodrigo, who helped us exchange our dollars into euros. We began our excursion on a motorcoach, heading to the city of Segovia.
In Segovia, we visited the Roman Aqueduct, learning of its legends and impact on the city. We also explored former synagogues and cathedrals, where we learned of the religious evolution presence in Segovia. As you can see, we made time to take in some of the beautiful architecture, people, lessons and fresh air.
Alcázar de Segovia was definitely a highlight. We experienced a lesson in royalty from our tour guide, Maria, who shared information about the Kings and Queens who lived in this epic fortress overlooking the plains of Spain.
To say that we were tired after this tour, would be an understatement. Many of us had been up for 24 hours and walked a lot after getting off of the plane. There were several pairs of tired legs, and more than enough growling stomachs in our group; so much so that our tour guide had to speak up at times. Our next stop was at a restaurant for a spectacular lunch in town.
Gazpacho soup, Bolognese Pasta, Cod Fish, Roasted Pork, Triple Layer chocolate cake were some of our menu options for lunch. We were STUFFED halfway through our meal. In fact, a few of us couldn’t wait to return for our siesta, so we took one right at the table. Sorry! :-(
After our siesta, the one at the table and on the bus ride back, we anxiously awaited our host families. As we pulled up, we saw them on the steps of the university, waiting to greet us with hugs, kisses and open arms! What a group of warm and inviting women. We waved goodbye to one another, ready to get settled into our home away from home. (Those stories we’ll share with you tomorrow)
It’s a long day, and we’re turning in early. We look forward to sharing our next day of adventures with you and everyone else following our journey. Don’t forget to follow our blog, like and share it with others.
¡Hasta Luego!
