Well, Bendy fandom is reacting to Sammy Lawrence's reveal in the new DCTL graphic novel about as well as I imagined

They really ignored her character, and it's killing me.

The only two times she wasn't, because she was shocked/confused.

I'm genuinely upset that they basically ignored her. To me, she's an incredibly strong person, because not everyone could handle everything she went through.

Her husband died in the war. Her only son – the one she tried to give everything she could – dies at his new job, and the person responsible for his death never faces any consequences. Then her father, who had already suffered so much during World War II, dies from heartbreak losing his grandson.

This is really a lot of psychological pressure on an overworked woman who is already having financial difficulties.

I know that the Dreams Come to Life Graphic Novel has been beaten to death over the years but Ive been poking through it recently and . The changes to the scene between Dot and Buddy talking at the bar REALLY pisses me off

It's not. particularly a BAD scene I guess its fine but knowing what the scene ORIGINALLY was this. really frustrates me .

Buddy's family being from Poland, as well as them being jewish are two VERY important aspects of his character. It's specified that for YEARS he has been tortured and made fun of by other people around town for simply EXISTING because of these factors. This is why in the original book he immedietly becomes defensive of himself when Dot asks

Dot doesn't mean any harm by it, of course. They're friends. But in the moment, Buddy can't really recognize it because hes so used to it being followed up by horrible remarks. He lashes out to prevent it from starting up. He needs to protect himself and in a way his family as well

I think this scene is just. A really good way of showing Buddy and Dot's friendship, as well as just them as characters. And it saddens me a lot to see how horribly it was done in the graphic novel because!!! This was one of my favorite scenes!!!!!!! It shows their complexities and Buddy's trauma that hangs over him, but it also shows the extents of what both of them are willing to go to keep the other happy

I do understand that this change was likely made because. In graphic novels you have to draw every single thing individually which takes time! I respect this!!! But with such an important characterization scene for not only the protagonist, but his friend, AND their relationship, dont you think you should??? Leave it unchanged???? Let your characters be complex!!! Let your characters be imperfect!!!! Let their relationships be a bit messy !!!!!!!

Also as a side note Graphic Novel Dot is way too soft. Not in personality but in the book shes always described as looking very judgemental, like shes always glaring at you. She has to PURPOSEFULLY soften her expression but in the graphic novel she doesnt really do that?? Shes very smile-y which I think diminishes the scenes where she TRIES to be more happy looking for Buddy but thats besides the point of this post LMAO

Real cute that he's using the excuse of him voicing Thomas. Like yes, there's a conversation to be had about white VAs taking roles for POC characters. BUT REALLY??? THAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?? YOU VOICING A CHARACTER WHEN YOU HAD A LIMITED TEAM AND CAST, THAT'S YOUR EXCUSE????????

I'm going. to take this moment to let people educate themselves. I made a post about this before but now's a good time I think.

Educate yourselves, watch these when you can. Understand that this behavior, while probably some of the worst yet, is not particularly surprising coming from the devs. Particurly Mike.

and please, don't buy that fucking novel. Go read the original or the other two in the series. Adrienne Kress is an amazing author and it's terrible that her talent is wasted on an IP that has creators who do shit like THIS.
