I once saw an AU where Joey makes Buddy his son successor, ruining his character in the process. Called "Mr. Lewek," if I'm not mistaken (by fishymom-art).
BUTWHATIF it's all the same thing, but with Buddy eventually realizing that his caretaker is a bit of a jerk, and in a fit of frustration and resentment, taking a slightly... radical approach to rectifying things.
But in the end, there's the one who can't step over his "parent" and the other who can't step over his "son."
