On the Lego Batman movie and shipping: This is probably the only version of things in which I’m probably going to go in and ship Batman and the Joker. In all other instances and variations that I know of, I’d be immediately squicked out by the ship, because of a great many reasons, most of which being that the Joker is literally someone happy to kill and traumatise others for fun. Who has literally killed Bruce Wayne’s kids, I think. And his relationship with Harley in all media is shown to be abusive.

Lego Batman has all characters as being played by a kid, so of course the Joker wouldn't be that bad, because he’s a fun character from the point of view of a kid watching cartoons and movies. It draws inspiration from other sources, but isn’t those characters - the Joker here is an entirely new version of himself. The relationship between the two, Joker and Batman, is completely different, with this in mind.

So when I see people saying ‘well, yeah, Joker/Batman has been a thing for ages, what do you mean, you didn’t know or something?’ sometimes, this is what goes through my head. 

To be honest, I was really kind of worried when I saw that this was going to be the new big ship for the movie, because I didn’t want to see something like that. It’s only after I saw some things and looked things up, that I went ‘okay, actually, it’s not that bad this once’.

If I think about it, the reason I like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy so much is probably because I don’t see them as evil. I don’t see them as cackling villains.

To me, Harley is this broken and remade woman, who’s gone through abuse and come out the other side. 

Poison Ivy can see the casual destruction going on around her, and she’s a woman who has lost hope in peoples’ good nature - why shouldn’t she turn to something more violent to be heard sometimes, when no one will listen to anything else?

They aren’t evil. But they aren’t good, either. 

To me, they’re the kind of people who go on villainous sisterhood shopping sprees with their friends. But they’re also the kind who stop when a little girl comes running up to them saying a bad man is trying to take me, and they help.  Not because they’re good, but because it’s the only right thing to do, because they connect with that situation on a human level.

If anything, I’d say they’re Chaotic Neutral. 

Don’t trust them to be heroes - they’ll turn the world on its head. 

Don’t trust them to help you destroy the world - they’ll save it instead.

scrolling through tags to add stuff to my non-existent queue, and I see lego batman movie art where robin’s been hit with, uh... joker gas? or something? he looks like he’s been joker-ified like in the old cartoons. I don’t keep up, but. yeah.

and it just make me annoyed, because - it’s framed like it’s this terrible fate, when lego joker, as shown in the movie, cares too damn much, in general and - whether he’d admit it or not! - for Batman, to feck up those newly found team/family connections Joker tried so hard to get Batman to create and strengthen.

Joker in the movie knew Batman as this loner who wouldn’t take notice of his arch-enemy, his most hated villain, and never worked together with anyone. badly enough that the rest of the villains’ gallery was like, ‘no? ditch him?’ to Joker.

the whole story is about Batman creating tenuous relationships so excuse me if I don't see even the point of going into that fragile psychological place Bruce/Batman now has, and smashing it with a baseball bat by having someone he trusts (yeah, I’d put Joker in that group, to an extent) hurting Robin. y’know. his kid. who he wants to protect. above almost all else.

well this does put a kink in my pitch idea
