FIRST KISS.
‘ You didn’t have to walk me to the door, you know. I’m very capable. I’ve been wearing heels since I was about SIX. ‘
Even though Kristen pretended not to care for what he was doing, she could still feel the corners of her lips turning up as she walked up the stairs, one hand balancing herself with the banister and the itching to grab his hand but stopping herself. His jacket was wrapped around her figure, a small hint of cologne still invading her senses. A few dates had come and gone, even another visit to the precinct, and still; nothing. No awkward standing at the door, no leaning in that would end with them bumping noses or hitting foreheads. Could he sense the way that she flinched? Or that even when she did want it, she would bite down on her bottom lip, unsure.
There were a few moments where she found herself holding her breath as she looked through her purse for her keys. Producing the large key ring that also held each key for each filing cabinet in The Annex, she flashed a smile and jingled them. ‘ I uh, I had a great time tonight. I’m getting spoiled with all this food. I’m going to have to start going running or something. ‘ Yeah probably not. Maybe just some more cuddles for her cat. And grapes instead of M&M’s.
She turned around and stuck her key in the lock before turning it, but turned around before she could open the door. The keys were still hanging in the lock. Almost hesitantly, she clutched her glasses in one hand. Her chin tilted up and her toes raised with her. It was as if she wasn’t in complete control of her body, for once letting her heart rather than her brain make her choices. It was a small kiss, nothing more than a feather light brush of lips that lasted a few seconds, before she pulled away. Her next words were teasing, that small smile back upon the corners of her lips.
‘ I really hope that’s enough to keep you coming back. ‘
And then she opened the door, giving him a lasting look. ‘ Goodnight Matt. ‘
