Day 9 of the 12 Days of Witchyness
Now live on AO3
Dedication: @keichanz, thank you for waiting a billion years. I hope this is worth it.
Pairing: InuKag, MirSan
Rated: E
AU: Ghost
Summary:
Inuyasha’s jaw clenched, but he answered. “A long fucking time. Centuries.”
“Centuries? Plural?”
“Did I stutter?”
He was annoying for a ghost. Kagome was used to dealing with spirits that were easily distracted, not all there or simply stubborn. This was a whole new level.
OR: A centuries-old murderer broke the peace in the town of Horaijima. Special Agents Sango Houko and Kagome Higurashi from the Special Crimes Unit were there to investigate. But where there was death, there would always be death. The ghost named Inuyasha was very clear on that.
Loved your latest fic!! Musculine bro love for the win =)) Can I also request for an angsty and smutty fic? Huhuhu love your writing
Ha, thank you love ❤️
Well, starting tomorrow (oh my god it starts tomorrow) is the 12 Days of Witchyness so you’ll be getting a new story/chapter from me every day until January 3rd. So you’ll definitely get angsty fics (Nepenthe, Golden, Don’t Close Your Eyes) and smutty fics (Drowning in the Night, On Your Left, Got No Idea). And ones that have a bit of both (Leverage, Oh But You’re Good To Me).
There’s probably more that fit in but my brain has forgotten 🙈
Director's Commentary for Don't Close Your Eyes? <3
Well, like two 12 Days of Witchyness’s ago, I asked for prompts. And @keichanz asked for a ghost AU. And then my mind was like YES. I CAN WRITE SOMETHING LIKE IMAGINARY AGAIN, because the only way I thought this could possibly work (and possibly with work smut, fuck me) is if Kagome is a medium. And then it really just devolved from there!
The concept of psychics in the FBI isn’t new but it was inspired by an old series of books by Kay Hooper. Super old school now (and her new stuff is not good) but when I was younger I loved them.
I know a few people are surprised that Sango is an empath but this story really does go back to my Imaginary roots, where I do multiple POV. Sango’s bit is just as important, and I wanted to showcase a side of Sango that I very rarely write. Usually I’m all “she’s badass!” or “look at that slayer goooo” but I wanted this to be...a mixture. More of a duality. You can tell me if it works or not!
Hope this was fun to read anon :)
C: can i beg you for another teaser of my ghost au pretty please c: c: c:
ANYTHING FOR YOU. Here’s an excerpt of Don’t Close Your Eyes.
(Sorry this took so long!)
When Kagome looked at the rear-view mirror for the fifth time, Sango started to get suspicious. There was no one following them; the road was empty. But she knew Kagome, better than virtually anyone else in her life. Kagome’s emotions were like a favourite playlist, something easily accessible. Their frequencies just aligned, and while Sango was extremely strong in her ability, it was Kagome that made them work so well. She was strong and steady, despite her fragile look.
But right now, there was something tremulous in her voice, in the way she held herself.
“Kagome,” Sango said, as gentle as she had ever been. The interruption startled the black-haired woman, made her blink almost owlishly at her. “What’s wrong?”
At first, Sango knew she was going to lie. Her mouth opened, caught, and then she shut it again, clearly thinking ahead. There was no point in lying to an empath. “My abilities are back.”
“Shit, really?” Sango asked. “The hit to the head?”
“Probably,” Kagome allowed. Her dark brown eyes skittered back to the rear-view mirror before looking away.
“You should be happy.” It was a question, just as much as a statement. The past few weeks had been hell for the medium, lost without the one thing she never wanted in the first place.
“I am. I-- I am,” she reaffirmed, but her tone was off. The way she said it sounded almost defensive, when Sango wasn’t even remotely aggressive. “It’s good that they’re back. Not that I was useless before but--” She cut herself off and Sango was torn between watching the road and staring at her friend. This was weird. This was beyond psychic ability weird. Kagome was clearly not in a trance - which was the only way to describe what it seemed like when she was communicating with spirits - but these stutters in her sentences were almost like the medium was having a conversation with someone else.
Someone Sango couldn’t see.
“Kagome,” she tried again. “What’s happening?”
The woman’s swallow was audible. “I think... I think my abilities have shifted a little.”
“Shifted how?”
Kagome winced. “There’s less of a veil, now. Less of a distinction between our world and theirs. At least to me. The spirits are more...solid. Like they’re really here. I thought-- Yes, I thought one of them was actually alive until a nurse walking right through-- Oh, shut up, will you? My name is Kagome. Ka-go-me!”
The medium groaned and buried her head in her hands.
Sango spared a glance in the rear-view mirror but saw absolutely nothing. “There’s a spirit in the car with us.”
Kagome nodded. “He was there, at the warehouse. I saw-- He’d been trying to warn me but that was before-- I told you I couldn’t hear you properly!”
“He sounds like a dick,” Sango stated. She glared into the mirror for good measure, just in case.
“It gets worse,” Kagome sighed, and the sound of it was weak. Sango had seen the woman at her worst, at her most exhausted. This... This was something else entirely. “He was murdered 500 years ago. And the thing that killed him? Also killed that woman in the warehouse.”
Sango blinked and then immediately pulled over onto the side of the road. She made the distinct effort to put the car in park and to turn on the emergency lights. Done, she turned to her friend and looked at her. Really looked at her. “Kagome, that’s not--”
“Possible?” The medium laughed but it was far from happy. “He’s not lying, Sango. Spirits can’t lie. They can evade, or they can be vague annoying inconveniences. But they can’t lie.”
“Who is he?” It seemed like the only question that made any sense.
“Inuyasha,” Kagome breathed. “His name is Inuyasha.”
Hi queeeen 🤗 so I know you like literally just put out a chapter for tfom and I hate to be thaaaat person but.. Im fucking obsessed with this story and I’m quarantined so I have to ask. How soon do you think a new chapter will be out 👀 no pressure im patient especially when it comes to your work because it’s always worth the wait no matter how long! Just curious on your thoughts. Stay safe 💚 that’s for being consistently amazing 💚 seriously we don’t deserve u
Awww hi darling! You’re so sweet.
Okay, so to answer your question, it’ll probably be up around May 15th. I know that’s a while - I’m super sorry - and if I can finish it earlier I will. My goal right now is to finish editing a ghost AU @keichanz requested a billion years ago and I finished it (but you know when you write a huge ass story in pieces over like a year and so there’s a LOT TO FIX SO IT MAKES ACTUAL SENSE? Yeah...). So that should be posted THIS WEEKEND. And then I need to wrap up the majority of Deductions so I don’t mess up all the details. The chapters basically allude to the killer at every turn so one mistake means death (for me). THAT will be posted around May 3rd. And then after that is TFOM. Again, if I can post sooner I totally will.
I’m also working a ton on my Gods AU and the enemies-to-lovers fake dating AU. Oh, and the mermaid AU. But top three are what I prioritize over everything.
Stay safe darling! Never worry about asking me. Honestly handing out deadlines makes me try so much harder :D
