in these trying times, whenever i think about umineko, i think a lot about Mrs. Ushiromiya.
even during my first playthrough of umineko, i understood immediately that she was an interesting character in how utterly absent she was from the story writ large.
i have no idea what she looks like. there's no pictures of her anywhere in the manor, and in fact Kinzo seemed more concerned of honoring his dead mistress/witch/financier/????????? than his own wife.
when she's spoken of, it's always in these...small statements and sentiments. she was harsh towards her children, towards Rosa most of all. she was cold, she was mean. Kinzo (obviously) left both a far greater footprint and far greater scars on the children than Mrs. Ushiromiya did.
the last thing she was truly remembered for was her paranoia. of knowing that some blonde harlot was living on Rokkenjima, that Kinzo was keeping this secret from her, keeping his mistress's location a secret, and desperately desperately desperately seeking this secret out. dying with the agony of knowing that she was, relatively speaking, unloved and most likely unwanted.
it's hard to describe further...but there's this yawning void where a character should be, and instead it's just her. bits and pieces of a person told by second- and third-hand accounts.
