little girl lost - closed character development para
Jasmine sat at her vanity questioning once again if she had made the right choice in leaving home, would her mother have been proud of her for standing up for herself or disappointed in who she had become? What had happened to the sweet but sassy girl from Arabia? The answer sat on her bedside table in the form of a solid gold ring with a large diamond in the center of it, the ring that started all this trouble that she kept to remind her of why she left. She knew if she didn’t have it sat there as a constant reminder of why she left she would return and become everything she didn’t want to be, married by force, abused, a trophy, worthless. So she stayed and she tried to be herself but the further from Arabia she travelled the more lost she was.
Brushing through her hair she stood and walked to the ring, if she didn’t know better she would call it cursed the ring had destroyed her and everything she was and for what? No family, no friends, no-one from her culture, she was surrounded by people but she was more alone than ever and it was all Jafar and that damn rings fault, she missed home, she missed who she was and had no idea how to be that girl again, she missed her tiger and her friends, but most of all she missed her dad, the man had only ever wanted what was best for his daughter so he didn’t lose her like he lost his wife and what happened his daughter joined the travelling carnival.
Lifting the lightweight ring into her hand and slipped it onto her finger before pulling it off quickly as if it had burned her, as if she would be located by the ring being on her finger. It was a beautiful ring it really was, one she would have been more than happy to have given to her by some-one she loved that she felt safe and comfortable with. Instead it was his, a man nearing his 60s with dark evil eyes and an attitude that terrified her in the moments she was left alone with him. That was the night she left with a note on her pillow a kiss to Kiljahs head as he slept with a pocket full of cash a cloak and some clothes, with the ring in her pocket as a reminder of everything she’s leaving to find and everything she has left behind.
So why hasn’t she found where she belongs yet? Is it because she ‘looks down on people’? No, she is sure she doesn’t do that, does she get annoyed and bored with things? Sure and maybe she is a little entitled, enjoying shopping and living in style her cart decorated with intricate and expensive objects but she lived a life where that was what she was used to for 22 years that doesn’t go away over night it was what she was raised and trained to be like. She wanted to go to pray and be where she can worship and feel at home, she just wanted to be her again but one where she was free to be herself with-out the pressure of royalty and duty.
Grabbing her phone she moved quickly out of her cart and towards the big cats, her cats, her comfort. The ring clutched tightly in her hands she moved quickly her feet hitting the floor as she avoided people and stares as she sped through the carts until she reached her destination and closed the cart door. Looking at the tigers. Moving towards them she sat and was bombarded by tigers wanting attention which she lovingly gave as she finally felt wanted, needed, loved feeling she only felt with her cats. Animals loved unconditionally, its what made them better than people. An idea hit her as she looked at the cats who she trained to do as she told them, they could help her fix this right?
Moving to the edge of the cart she found what she was looking for a small hiding space just enough for a ring. Sliding the ring into the safest place she knew she summoned the cats over to her. “Alright boys I need you to keep this hidden ok? Don’t let any-one near it not even Rajah ok? It’s a secret. Its going to cheer me up” she spoke to the cats knowing that they would guard the ring. It was still there to remind her not to go back but maybe with it hidden who she was could find her place in the world.
