How is Neville so bad at potions? How is it possible for anyone to be bad at potions? The instructions are on the board in front of you. You just have to follow the instructions. How is it possible for him to have melt six cauldrons?
What's wrong with him? Is he stupid? Does he need glasses but never told anyone? Is he stupid? There's no way Snape's sole presence is so absolutely menacing that Neville just forgets how to read the instructions that are on the board that is in front of him every single class.

Previous part First part
The low rumble of the idling engine beneath them filled Regulus with an anticipation he’d never felt before. He felt like his heart would burst with the amount of emotion his body was containing at this exact moment. The only thing keeping him centred was the comforting pressure of James’s hand holding his. This was it; they were about to travel to their first professional venue on the first stop of their first tour.
He looked over at Barty, who was unusually quiet, curled up against Evan.
“He was up all night,” Evan explained when he noticed Regulus staring.
“So I made him some of my special tea,” Pandora said, turning around in her seat to face them.
Barty’s eyes drooped more and more until he gave in and fell asleep.
“Erm, did you just drug him?” James asked, concerned.
“No, it’s just Vervain. Oh, and a couple of other calming herbs, but mostly Vervain,” Pandora smiled sweetly and turned back around as the bus’s engine roared as it pulled away.
James shuffled uncomfortably beside him and kept glancing over to Barty.
“Look,” Regulus said, twisting until he could look into James’s eyes. “When the police ask for your account of Barty’s untimely death, you can totally throw Dora under the bus.”
“I have video of Evan giving him the tea,” Pandora chirped from the front.
“It’s well documented that Barty and Regulus have near constant beef with each other, and Regulus has definitely threatened to kill him more than once,” Evan retorted.
“So… he got into Dora’s things and made his own poison?” Regulus suggested.
“Agreed,” Evan and Pandora said together just as Barty gasped loudly. They stared at him, waiting for him to take a breath. All joking aside, Regulus did not want anything to happen to his best friend.
“OI!!!” James bellowed, and Barty startled awake, his eyes bugging out of his head.
“What? What? Where am I? What’s going on?”
“Shh, go back to sleep, darling, we’ve got a long drive,” Evan cooed. Barty shrugged and snuggled back up to Evan’s side.
“Try and keep the noise down, yeah?” Barty grumbled, and soon the bus was filled with his loud, obnoxious snores.
“Anyone else wishing that Dora’s tea had actually killed him?” Regulus grumbled. Evan snorted so loudly it was a wonder he didn’t wake Barty up again.
Regulus relaxed against James, feeling a calm come over him. This was it. He’d proved his parents wrong. He was about to become someone. He watched as James’s fingers traced his own and realised he already was someone to James, and he’d rather be that than anything else.
