When his dad picked him up from Sonny’s Dean knew the ride would be tense. He just didn’t think it would be this tense, with Sam bumbled away with his toy airplane and his over sized shirt. The night was quiet even with that and the purr of the impala.
None of the Winchesters spoke. Dean out of fear, Sam out of ignorance and John? Well Dean didn’t know why his father hadn’t said a word. The eldest of the brothers sat through the car rise, staring rigidly out the front window waiting for something, anything to happen. Minutes on the rode turned to hours, and hours turned to days of his waiting in fear of what his father would do as punishment for getting arrested. Days became weeks and still nothing. John was acting normal, well for a hunter. Still every day for weeks after he returned from Sonny’s, Dean would flinch if his father came too near or raised his voice too much.
