Grade 7 student Matt Seeney from Cartwright Public School in Blackstock, worked with his teammates to build a house during the construction challenge that was part of the Skills Ontario regional competition March 21 at the Children's Arena in Oshawa. The Durham District School Board has launched the new initiative as a free six-week workshop series for black families in Durham with children ages 6-11. This program is supported by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, John Howard Society of Durham Region, and Side-by-Side Access Services. For the second year, the Durham District School Board is offering a Diversity Book Club for Grade 7 to 12 teachers to help them learn more about books that reflect voices not traditionally reflected in English class book lists.
