DD: The World of Elkanov part 2
This is a little short. Sorry about that. I’ll try to update every Wednesday and Sunday for my story. Hope you enjoy~

The way back was pleasantly uneventful and I was able to get back in just a few minutes. I unlock the door after placing my shoes into the shoe rack before slamming the door shut. I flop onto the sofa after tossing my bag onto another chair and placing the book I brought back on the coffee table. I sigh, my body feeling heavy from exhaustion. My mind wanders back to the events that had happened earlier at school. Did I really just faint? I feel like I’m forgetting something. I shake my head.
“Stop thinking about it, you are just going to give yourself a headache,” I say to myself. I take off my glasses and place them on the coffee table. I sigh, my eyes getting heavy. I feel as if something was sucking away at my energy. I’ll just take a quick nap. I thought as I fall asleep.
I could hear the sound of two people talking, a man and a woman wearing some kind of uniform, at the door in the living room. I watch them intently as they talked about something I couldn’t quite understand. I feel myself moving forwards towards them as the voice of my mother calls out to them. The two looks at us and the woman reach her hand out to pinch my cheek.
“Please protect him, Bella. No matter what happens to the two of us, don’t ever leave him alone. We promise we’ll be back.” The woman’s voice says. I couldn’t make out both of their faces but I have a feeling we are somehow connected. I could feel the comforting warmth of my mother cradling me as a warm, rough hand caresses my head.
“Remember to keep the pendant on him at all times.” The man’s coarse and deep voice reminds her. “You two have to come back. I don’t know what we’d do without you here.” Mum’s voice was pleading as if she knew they wouldn’t.
“Of course we will!” The man’s cheerful voice reassures her and gestures to the woman next to him, “She’s coming with me after all!” The woman punches him playfully on his arm as she says, “Don’t worry, Bella. We’ll win and come back for our boy. And don’t hesitate to call on Ed if you need anything.”
I look up to see mum nodding her head with a pained expression but soon a smile makes its way onto her face. She holds me a little tighter as the two people wave at us before walking out the door. I could see my hands reaching out for the two as their bodies gradually disappear from my sight, tears welling up in my eyes as I try to call out to them.
“WAIT!” I exclaim, my breath shaky. I blink. I notice my outstretched arm and pull it back before rubbing my eyes that had started pooling water. My heartbeat racing, I take deep breaths to calm myself before I shake my head as I try to recall what I had just dreamt. What was that? No matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t remember everything from the dream I just had.
I sigh and whisper to myself, “It’s just a dream.” I grab my glasses from the table and hold them in front of my eyes as I look at the clock on the wall behind the sofa. “Hmm… wait it’s already 5:35!?” I get up as I put on my glasses and walk upstairs to my room to grab my phone from my desk. I unlock my phone as I walk down the stairs and open up my unread messages.
One of the unread messages was from my mum. After reading its contents, I sigh a little disappointed. “Oh, she won’t be home till late again?” I mutter. “Guess I’ll be eating dinner alone tonight.” Sighing, I walk trudge back to the kitchen to get dinner ready.
I left some popcorn popping in the popcorn machine after dinner as well as some butter in the microwave and start washing the dishes. It took a few minutes to finish washing and drying the dishes since I was the only one home. The popcorn was ready just as I had finished and I placed them into a bowl and poured in the melted butter and some salt. I place the rest of the dishes in the sink, deciding to clean up later and take the popcorn and a glass of cold water to the seating area by the window across the TV.
Oh, right. I leave the bowl of popcorn and the glass of water on the table and walk to the other side of the bookshelf where I had left my bag and the book I had brought home with me. I pick up the book that was on the table. As I was heading back to the TV area, a sudden jolt of pain assaults my head, making me drop the book. I hold back a groan and take off my glasses to pinch the bridge of my nose to ease the pain as I close my eyes shut. I open them back up to pick up the book that had fallen onto the floor.
“Wh-what on earth?” I exclaim as I stumble and fling the book onto the floor. What the fuck? I stare wide-eyed at the book, a mix of red and green orbs floating around it, making it look as if it were glowing. I sit up on the floor as I shake my head and rub my eyes but the orbs did not disappear. “O-okay, calm… calm down, Al.” I mutter as I reach up to adjust my glasses, my heart beating a little faster than it should. My hands stop when I realise that I had placed my glasses on the table. Ignoring my habit, I shake my head and try to calm myself. “There’s probably a very logical explanation for this. Right? Nothing just glows all of a sudden. Books don’t glow.” I whisper to myself. “It’s probably just the window making the light from the sun change or something.”
I look towards the window in front of me. There is barely any light coming from the setting sun and even if there were any light, the windows are not tinted so it would be implausible for the light to be the cause of the orbs. I squinted my eyes as I turned back to look at the book sprawled on the floor, my vision a little blurry from my bad eyesight and dizziness. Normally, I would be quick to pick a book left like that up but with those strange orbs floating around it as well as my dulled mind, it's a given that I would hesitate. My eyes are starting to lose focus from the pain. It's starting to spread? Damn it! I can't breathe! What on earth is happening?!
My whole body hurts. My throat feels dry. I start coughing as I reel forward, clenching my chest. Dark spots appearing in my eyesight as my consciousness starts to fade. My eyelids feel heavy. I can't... Green and red orbs start to envelop me just as my eyes start to close. The pain from earlier gradually lessens and I could start breathing again. What's...? I gasp for breath, my body feeling light. As my eyes start to gain focus, I peer at the floating orbs. Their source clearly from the book left sprawled out on the floor. I get up and cautiously move towards the book, the orbs still floating around it and some moving towards me. Staring at the orbs that surround me, I realise that the orbs are gathering to the centre of my chest before being absorbed by my body.
I shake my head and sigh, "Whatever is going on, it won't help if I just stand around here all scared." My eyes dart to the book. "Just grab the book and you can ask about it tomorrow. " Steeling myself, I grab the book from the floor. A sudden wave of energy hit me the moment my hand touches its leather cover as the rest of the orbs surrounding the book starts moving towards my chest even quicker than before but this time I held onto the book tighter instead of letting it go.
Directing my attention towards the centre of my chest, my eyes widen. "The... pendant?" My other hand takes out the pendant hidden behind my shirt and lo and behold, the orbs were indeed gathering into the pendant before seemingly being absorbed by my body. Whatever's happening right now, one thing I know is that these orbs aren't dangerous. Ignoring my suspicions, I sit down on the couch with the book in hand. I pick up my glasses from the table and put them on.
"Uh..." A sound of confusion leaves my mouth. The orbs surrounding me and the book vanish the second I put my glasses on. I take in a deep breath to calm my mind before lifting my glasses up and down. "Hmm... So it really does have something to do with my eyes." Leaning back against the couch, I adjust my glasses as I close my eyes to gather my thoughts. Silence fills the room as my thoughts take over, recalling the events of the day.
"This whole day has just been absolutely absurd," I mutter. Letting out a long sigh, my mind wanders back to the book. "I'll just read." And with that, I decide to continue where I left off from the strange book in my hand.
