PLOT POINTS
I. The Rowles rejoiced over the birth of their first and only son, Thorfinn. Here was a wizard to carry on the family’s legacy—not only in name, but in deed and achievement. Thorfinn grew up proud of his surname, proud of his family’s history, proud to be not only one of them, but trusted so easily with their future. It was a responsibility he took seriously until he didn’t. Expectations got in the way of fun, and Thorfinn liked fun infinitely more. When Mr. Rowle announced his plan to open his own law firm, Thorfinn scoffed. Ignoring his father’s plans to make him his partner, he cleaned out his trust fund and took off, travelling the world with friends even less responsible than him. Now well traveled, still uncultured, and completely broke, Thorfinn has come crawling back home, ready to wave the white flag and take on all that his father had prepared for him before he left. Finding Usi Mulciber in the office that was meant to be his, and a long list of tasks to complete in order to earn his Dark Mark has been a wake up call, though Thorfinn is half-convinced he’s still living in a nightmare.
II. Though the weight of his riches were wasted on parties and travel fees (and luxuries, of course), another portion of Thorfinn’s trust fund was depleted by a wicked hobby: gambling. Thorfinn isn’t particularly unlucky; in fact, when looking back on his record, one would find that he’s done marginally better than breaking even. Thorfinn’s problem, like with every other knut he’s ever spent, is that he gambles in absurdly extravagant quantities. The straw that broke the camel’s back and sent Thorfinn back home was a recent game of craps with Ludo Bagman. Once Thorfinn begins to make his own money, he’s got every intention of showing Ludo what he’s made of and who the real winner is—all in good fun, of course.
OTHER CONNECTIONS
Ramsey Shafiq: Fun-loving isn’t a trait that’s easily cultivated unless there’s someone to share it with. Growing up, for Thorfinn, that person was Ramsey Flint. Though they were in different houses, the pair really found each other, as they say, during their Hogwarts years. From elaborate trips over the summer holidays, to drunken parties and card tournaments in the little known Room of Requirement throughout the school year, Thorfinn and Ramsey made their fair share of memories (most of which they don’t actually remember, at least not accurately). Since Thorfinn’s return from his time abroad, the biggest adjustment in settling down into adulthood is seeing what’s become of his friends who have already made that change. Seeing Ramsey work his nine-to-five every day, and watching him tote a toddler around on his hip after hours, has been the ultimate culture shock for the party boy. Last Thorfinn checked, though, parenthood doesn’t have to be synonymous with boring, and he’s dead set on reminding Ramsey of exactly that.
Vivien Travers: Despite busying himself with his regular mischievousness, Thorfinn remembers hearing whisperings about the terrible state of Tobias Travers and his family. The gossip first started with comments about Tobias’s paraplegia, apparently beyond any magical repair. Then came the talks of the Travers’ lost fortune, and how they were barely above begging on the streets. Naturally, Thorfinn had far more captivating interests than listening to busybodies, so he blocked all such gossip. It wasn’t until the Boxing Day Ball in 1972, that Tobias Travers’ family caught his attention—in the form of his only child, Vivien. While only seventeen at the time, her mere presence commanded Thorfinn’s attention. He silenced the gossip he heard about how “terribly plain and cheap” her robes looked, and approached to ask for a dance, to which she accepted. After the night concluded, Thorfinn’s mother berated him, explaining that rubbing elbows with Tobias Travers’s daughter would do nothing good for his reputation. Thorfinn initially disregarded his mother’s stern advice; for the early part of 1973, he and Vivien exchanged letters. During the summer of that year, Thorfinn began bringing her to the various places he went to gamble. He taught her everything, and it didn’t take long for Vivien to become infatuated and talented with the many games. As the summer waned, his affection for the witch grew; however, his mother’s warning from months before began to sting. By autumn, Thorfinn had parted for his many travels. The two exchanged letters here and there, but by the time Vivien married Piers Gamp, all communication between the pair ended. Now back in the U.K. and undeniably broke, Thorfinn has heard through the grapevine that Vivien is penniless one again and widowed, and he considers contacting her. After all, how can she ruin his already damaged reputation?

BIOGRAPHY
As a quiet boy in a not-so-quiet household in the woodland town of Pembroke, Tristan Dearborn could often be found down by the river – with his cat and away from his family – nose deep in whatever book had taken his fancy that week. It wasn’t that he didn’t like them; Tristan loved his mother, tolerated his brother and knew he could count on his father if he needed to. He just preferred being on his own, consumed in his own thoughts. His childhood home was a bustle of his mothers clients, the clinks of his father’s beer bottles, and the noises of whatever Caradoc was occupying himself with that day. It wasn’t much, but for the first eleven years of his life it was home.
As a young boy, entering Hogwarts with his mother’s Slytherin legacy and the warnings of his brother to not screw up on his shoulders, Tristan was almost instantly sorted into Slytherin, a decision that would shape all those to come. Soon falling in with those in his house, Tristan, ever the easily influenced, was quick to lean towards his housemates ideals of blood-purity, keeping the mentions of his muggle father to a minimum.
When Mrs Dearborn passed in his second year, a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, the rift between Tristan and his brother was wedged. Another two years of Tristan getting deeper into dark magic, and Caradoc caring less and less, ended in a fight that permanently separated the Dearborn brothers and finalised Tristan’s transition into a Jugson.
Now, too deep in to climb out, Tristan has solidified his place in the lower ranks of Voldemort’s following, and is training to become an obliviator, a profession he hopes will help further his sides agenda.
PLOT POINTS
I. From the moment Tristan entered the world, he exhibited striking personality differences from his brother. As Caradoc grew confident, loud, and boisterous, Tristan remained within his own thoughts. He found difficulty relating to his older brother, and after the death of their mother in 1971, the rift between the Dearborn brothers raged rampantly. Their rift solidified when Tristan began using their late mother’s wand, after his own was destroyed when Walden Macnair used it to practice Dark Magic. Caradoc felt his younger brother to be undeserving of the wand, and Tristan resented his brother for the statement. It was at that moment Tristan no longer thought of himself as a Dearborn. He was a Jugson, his mother’s maiden name, and legally switched his surname after graduation.
II. Tristan never wanted a place in the war. It wasn’t until Macnair began vividly explaining the unstoppable and unyielding qualities of Dark Magic, and that Tristan could help form a new, better world, that he considered the ongoing conflict. Perhaps the promise of power seduced him, or maybe it was Tristan’s lack of confidence and Macnair’s dynamic personality. Tristan took part in aiding an attack on a goblin family a few months ago, and his dedication (or rather, fervent following of Macnair) garnered him a place among Voldemort’s lower ranks. Truthfully, he looks at the mark on his arm with apprehension. On one hand, Tristan secured a comfortable place in a dark world—something he earned as aJugson, not a Dearborn. On the other hand, he wonders if he threw himself into a hole he can never climb out of.
OTHER CONNECTIONS
Lori Orpington: Tristan can’t recall a time when he didn’t fancy Lori. He remembers clearly the first time he spoke to her: it was potions class, and he forgot to bring a quill. Lori immediately offered her spare, and her forgiving smile made him feel happy (a notion almost forgotten since the passing of his mother). Since then, their interactions stayed minimal, but Tristan’s fondness never faltered. On New Years Eve, a little over a year ago, the two met at a pub at the night went from there. Tristan confessed his feelings. One thing led to another, and they eventually shared a consummating fling. The joyous sensation immediately recoiled for Tristan, as he remembered the path his life had taken; Lori was a good person, and she deserved better than him. After she fell asleep, Tristan quickly dressed and vanished. He has only seen her a few times since then, accompanied by a child who would be the perfect age – but it couldn’t possibly have anything to do with him, he told himself repeatedly.
Lucius Malfoy: As Tristan finds himself getting more involved in the war, Lucius Malfoy always seems to be nearby. With what started as running into each other on lunch breaks has quickly evolved to Lucius insisting Tristan attend certain parties with a select few death eaters. Lucius’ interest in Tristan was a bit unnerving at first, but now he’s in too deep to say no. But he worries that if he plays too much into his hand, one day it’ll go too far.
