Gaming News: Streets of Rage fan-film is all the rage
Streets of Rage fans will no doubt find De-Pixelated’s brilliant short film based upon the side-scrolling beat em up video-game classic to be streets ahead and all the rage.
Our latest De-Pixelated once again features Aaron Alexander, along with the rest of his stunt crew, in one epic seven-minute single-take of retro glory.
For the record, this was shot at 5 in the morning in below-freezing temperatures. Give the crew some props.
Blue Goggles' latest episode of De-Pixelated is up, concerning a certain gigantic game that no one will shut up about. It's also TERRIFYING, and Brian Villalobos (the guy playing Jason) really freaking delivers the crazy. (Not to leave out the other guy, Jason Vines – he really delivers the crapping-his-pants-with-fear.)
Also, if you hadn't seen yet, the Kickstarter for our web series is still going – we've got 7 days! Check it out and pass it along while you can; we would definitely appreciate the support.
The release of this De-Pixelated episode we finished fooorrrevver ago was delayed so it could debut at the GT Film Festival (which is pretty awesome, right!?), but it's finally available to the Internet Public-at-Large. Check out our personal kung fu hero Aaron Alexander as he rips into thugs Assassin-style.
One man. All Black. All Assassin. All Black Assassin. Blackssassin. Coming Soon.
Makeup Post Time! Aka sorry I forgot you, Blue Goggles, Space Jockey, the Internet
Two De-Pixelated episodes out and as-yet-unTumblred, another episode about to post in a week, the production for an exciting side-project being edited as we speak, and oh right we finally finished that independent feature! So there might've been a backlog of activity that I've neglected to put up...
First, our July episode of De-Pixelated went out in (you guessed it) July, bringing to light the epidemic of piñata abuse rampant among our youth:
Second, our August episode also posted — a whole shit-ton of punching, piping, and angry Daniel Day-Lewis faces! I was super psyched to get to work on an all-action short, choreographed by the nigh-invulnerable Aaron Alexander. AND our Official Famous Game Industry Friend Alexander Brandon graciously gave us some excellent voiceover! Not to mention I was privileged to write all the score and music for it:
Check out the full track underneath the credits here:
Third, I can't really say much about yet, other than me, my co-conspirator Clayton, and the Blue Goggles crew have shot an excellent pilot for a contest...more details to come.
Fourth, WE ACTUALLY MIXED OUR FILM! For two years now, we've been working on an independent feature called The Space Jockey Pursuit — and that two years includes planning, production, and post, with ALL audio bits done and/or supervised by me, Clayton, and other-audio-extraodinaire-I-have-yet-to-mention Brandon Brown. Me and Clayton flew back to Savannah in mid-August (with a few drive-in visits from Mr. Brown) for two weeks of mixing with brothers Brian and Matt Titshaw (the director and writer/star of the film, respectively). It's super exciting to have the mix finally done...all we need to do now is ensure we have all our legal bases covered, plan the festival circuit, figure out distribution...oh there's so much still to do. But you can check out the first two teasers below!
I think that's it for now...there's some other projects rumbling in the distance, but more will come as more goes up.
And no, the man himself is not in it, so deal with it. Our latest De-Pixelated episode is up, though - check it out. I originally wanted to write all the music for the short, but the ol' Max Payne theme worked way better. And what I wrote didn't particularly fit with the mood...so it turned into credits music. The whole track is on Soundcloud; I've included it below.
Here's a lovely featurette on me and Clayton, the guys behind everything you hear on those Blue Goggles/De-Pixelated videos. The video was shot and cut together by one Mr. Travis Jones, (aka our grip and gaffer on-set). Thanks, Travis!
So for the past few months, the Blue Goggles crew has been making a video-game-themed short per month. It's been super fun, and we've gotten some internet exposure via Machinima and Gametrailers, but now even greater things have happened - we got picked up as a series by Gametrailers!
So I am super psyched to announce that the first episode of De-Pixelated is officially up! It's all Resident Evil-y, based on the new one (I know, I know, trust us, the short is better than the game). We got to hang out with zombies and Tyrants for two nights of blissful production! Me and Clayton (the other half of sound team) also pulled a pretty exciting/hallucinatory all-nighter to get the mix done, so hopefully you can feel the love/insanity put into the episode. Did I mention zombies?

Go check it out at Gametrailers - there's also a behind-the-scenes video up (with one specifically for sound team on the way!), and loads of photos from the shoot on Facebook (courtesy of Control Images).
