Finished playing Hyper Light Drifter and i get it. I get why people ship him with Beheaded now, the themes of both their games are similar and mesh so well???

HLD is all about the inevitability of death, their attempt with the Immortal Cell backfiring, all the bosses (and Drifter!) having their own ways of coping with the inevitable, the classic DABDA stuff leading to further destruction and ruin not just to others but also the self

And in comes Dead Cells, who you'd expect to disagree because Beheaded is THE immortal cell basically that they all wanted, but no, the entire game CORROBORATES that the methods taken to create him was horrible and he's a jerk through and through because he can't die and can't see the value in life and others because of it

And somehow every boss relates to Beheaded in a way if you factor his backstory in as the King (invading and keeping himself isolation like the Frog, manipulating the masses as he pleases with his power and status like the Heirophant, the advanced technology and experiments it took to make become a homunculus like the Southern Area, and of course the eternally fighting, frozen in time whether one way or another in the Crystal Forest)

all of this just enhances the experience of this ship for me even more now rjkckrc

The crossovers where BH ends up in the Land of Light is even funnier now that I have this full context kinda (i have not gotten far in Dead Cells yet, ive only beat the game once or twice HAHAH) and while i do love the angst of Beheaded accepting Drifter's inevitable end, if there's anyone that can defy this it probably would be him and I can easily imagine he'd find someway to save Drifter and give a fuck you to the Jackal on their way out WICIEKKCKKE

#i completely believe the Jackal would be sooo irritated with the beheaded #i think both beheaded saving drifter so he lives a lil longer or accepting drifters death are both good redemption arcs for him #drifter deserves a soft epilogue and beheaded will make that happen #driftcells #hyper light drifter #dead cells #deadcells #hld drifter #the beheaded #also their atmosphere is fun to contrast with #dead cells is a very grim setting but beheaded's pov significantly lightens it up #but even he has moments where he's somber #HLD is the one that gives this calm march of inevitability to me it sticks with its theme consistently and rarely strays #so beheaded's presence absolutely shakes it up if he ends up there #i also like the idea of drifter ending up in dead cells too #if beheaded lightens up the atmosphere in the land of light #i think drifter would emphasize the grim and sadness of the situation of the kingdom #and beheaded would have to consistently face this and come to terms with the reality and mortality of others with drifter as his companion
